We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Dr. Relman was a leading proponent for years of increased government control of medicine, the very thing that has forced doctors to focus more on recording notes in the chart than on actually caring for the patient. Now, he bitches about the devil he helped create.
The government can't manage 1/10 of what it's already taken on using a gazillion workers. Why should we expect anything different from healthcare?
As for saving costs? What has government taken over in the last many, many decades that we KNOW is less costly than using the private sector under free markets? Protecting our country from enemies foreign and domestic doesn't even qualify anymore.
