We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

A ski weekend

Heading up to Killington this morning with some buddies. I am expecting plenty of powder and plenty of Long Trail.


I think I had best bring my heavy-duty winter undies. Maybe get some runs in this afternoon with my new skis, bought (brand new Volkls, in wrapper) on eBay (last year's model, for 1/3 the price).

It's been a long time since I have downhill skied, but in those days I was quite convinced that professional setting of the bindings was absolutely required in order to prevent leg and ankle injuries in the event of a fall.

Ho do you go about doing that on online-ordered skis?

Any ski shop will change your bindings

Any ski-shop on the hill or off has the tools to quickly adjust the bindings to the skiers boot and ability.

It takes seconds...

there isn't much natural snow here right now.....though plenty cold enough! Good luck!

If you can get the triple-bag, do so.

Yes, regarding the cold. Take lunch early and short. Take another break mid afternoon and make it a full one. That is not only safer for cold, but for injury. Ski injuries tend to be later in the day. Listen to your knees.
