Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Video: Senator Rand Paul filing Class Action Lawsuit against President Obama over NSA Spying:
http://commoncts.blogspot.com/2014/01/video-senator-rand-paul-filing-class.html I've read the Palin quote in several places and can't help thinking his remarks were somehow conflated, edited or bowdlerized. Surely he can't believe 21st century Christians and Jews have more power and influence today. If memory serves, critiques of Life of Brian were derided as priggish and unhip.
think we can all agree his concern about the sensitivity of certain other faiths is, understandable. (Wink wink nudge nudge, say no more) Re: "A World Drowning In Fatties".
There is a reason that these statistics conflate the overweight with the obese. The intent of course is to inflate the problem and misinform. Is a 6' 185 lb man really a "fattie". They are counted with the fatties just as a 6' 350 lb man is. This is a political agenda not so different from the income inequality issue in that it is to be used to promote a specific agenda. They want the government to make some foods illegal and to prescribe what should be eaten. Next they will take children from their parents because they served some food on the "no-fry" list. The left commonly blames fast foods or meat or refined foods as the culprit in this "fattie" pandemic. But what percentage of the "fatties" are obese and worthy of regulating? Certainly not the 33% they would have you believe since most of these people are comfortably overweight but at no risk of becomng obese. Lets say that 15% of Americans (or the world) are truely obese. But yet we all eat the same foods. Sure there is a small clique of people who are vegans or on a paleo diet or something of the sort but 95% of us eat the foods commonly found in the supermarkets in our nieghbrhoods. So 85% of Americans are not obese and yet they eat the same foods. You would think this fact would slowly dawn on those who want our government to control what we eat. How can it be the food making us "fatties" when 85% of us are not fatties and eat the same food? But this oposite side of the arguement never comes up. If junk food made us fat why doesn't it make all of use "fat"? It must be something else, something obvious, something the food police are blind to. Hmmmm. Could it be it's genetic? Since it tends to run in families and in ethnicities could it possibly be that it is genetic? How could the food police have missed this obvius answer? Oh wait! You can't use that fact to gain political control of our food and eating habits. Scratch that theory. The science is settled and 97% of food police agree it's our diet that is making us all obese. All dissenting opinions will be deleted or edited to conform to the politicaly correct view. I'm sorry, you lost me. But, if it helps, I do remember being bullied by a fat kid in first or second grade. Fat kids can really push their weight around. For me, that means they are fit.
Let me simplify:
Everyone with a BMI of 25 or more is considered overweight. Everyone with a BMI of 30 or more is considered obese. But in fact we all know people with a BMI of 30 or more who do not look obese. The BMI cutoffs were choosen arbitrarily and the people with the most input to this were vegan activists whit an agenda. But even if you use the activist own data which lumps normal weight people (BMI 25) with obese people to inflate their stats you are still left with the inconvenient truth that 2/3rds of the people are neither over weight nor obese. This is significant because as I pointed out we all eat the same things (pretty much all) and yet 2/3rds failed to become "fatties". What this should tell you is it isn't our diet. If fast food or supermarket prepared foods caused obesity then we would all be obese. This is a classic case of looking at the glass and calling it half full (actually 1/3rd full) unstead of half empty (2/3rds empty). Obesity is genetic, yu get it from your mom or dad not from McDonalds. The BMI is a phony scale created by food nannies with an agenda. Re: minimum wage
We always hear somewhat esoteric arguments about how the minimum wage prices the value of unskilled labor to highly - which is true - but what seems to be left out of the discussion too often is the domino effect of higher wages at the bottom of the pay scale. If the $7.50/hr laborer gets a raise to, say $10/hr (not to mention $15/hr) those who are already making $10/hr would certainly deserve a raise too to say, $12/hr. Those making $12/hr would deserve a raise to $14/hr, etc... Not only does all those raises raise the price of the goods but it artificially raises the price of all their labor higher that it would normally be. Today, we fix nothing - rather we throw things away that are broken. Why? It's because labor is too expensive. By the time you pay the guy to fix your TV, you could buy another. I don't say that minimum wages (and unions) are totally to blame but they contribute to the situation. If those who complain about the minimum wage wage would stop complaining and form a business and hire people at the wage and benefits they want to impose on other businesses. Somebody would learn something. Either they would learn that the world isn't quit what they thought or we could learn how to do what they suggest. Back in 1961 people of color were called ‘Negroes.’ So how can the Obama ’birth certificate’ state he is “African-American” when the term wasn’t even used at that time?
2. The birth certificate that the White House released lists Obama’s birth as August 4, 1961 & Lists Barack Hussein Obama as his father. No big deal, right ? At the time of Obama’s birth, it also shows that his father is aged 25 years old, and that Obama’s father was born in “Kenya , East Africa”. This wouldn’t seem like anything of concern, except the fact that Kenya did not even exist until 1963, two whole years after Obama’s birth, and 27 years after his father’s birth. How could Obama’s father have been born in a country that did not yet Exist? Up and until Kenya was formed in 1963, it was known as the “British East Africa Protectorate”. http://www.theminorityreportblog.com/2014/01/03/obama-busted-birth-cert-contains-wordsplaces-that-did-not-exist-in-1961-african-american-kenya/ You don't seriously believe that is his birth certificate, do you? If so, you can keep your doctor and your healthcare insurance won't go up one dime. And the oceans will no longer rise.

33+% of the world population is obese? Clearly, famine has been conquered--except where corruption rules. Hayes is a doofus. I done said it before I'm almost sure. The story isn't about how some warmists got trapped by ice in the summer time in Antarctica or about how it is colder or warmer than usual here or there. That ship has sailed. Global warming or whatever they want to call it is yesterday's news and totally debunked. It's about how the warmist nonsense has lead to a decline in icebreaker capability for the good ole U.S.A. The point is, those hapless climate alarmists were transported by time chartered boats owned by China and Russia. China and Russia made money. And every darn day those boats are 'trapped', they make money. And American boat companies don't. Think about that.

The post-Storm Of Doom cleanup continues. Part of it includes clearing the slope of the driveway of ice and snow with the judicious use of ice-melt now that the temperatures are out of the single digits. Why the hurry...
