Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Please, Congress, Do Much Less

Hinkle begins:


You can’t swing a dead cat by the tail these days without hitting a news story about the lack of legislation issuing from the 113th Congress. From CNN to McClatchy to NPR to the L.A. Times, the air is thick with pieces lamenting that the 113th makes “the infamous ‘do-nothing Congress’ of the late 1940s look downright prolific.”


Apparently we’re all supposed to feel really bad about that.

Let's get really politically incorrect and repeal some federal laws.

Similarly, I have more than once told my State Senator and Rep that next time someone comes into their offices and says "There oughtta be a law", throw them right out the window. They never listen.

Make it a requirement that all states and the Feds review 2 - 5% of the laws in place every year and repeal at least half. Then, place sunset terms on every law passed. If it's worthwhile, it will be renewed. We have too many darn lawyers in this country.

That, or a variant of it has been tried at various times in various places. Like budget caps, it has never worked as far as I can tell. The legislators just pass a new law waiving it until the present (perpetual) emergency is over.

Congress could not finish their primary function -- setting a budget. That is FAILURE. They are stealing when they accept their paycheck.
