We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
If I may be so bold as to speculate, he may be (as evidenced by his pursuing the criminal) or may have become a closet conservative as a result of his experience.
However, if the article is accurate and he is indeed a party big wig, he would stand to lose power, prestige, influence, and most of all, access to the taxpayer funded gravy train administered and dispersed by his brethren. Renouncing liberalism may cost him dearly in the wallet. We all know how the left treats those who leave the reservation.
He would lose all that by defecting. What would he gain? So I would expect him to keep parroting the party line.
It is merely speculation on my part. I do not know his bio or if he is feeding at the government trough.
Well, I was about to say - it may be "thus" now but maybe not always so. The rich used to have better taste - or better advisors, anyway. Motivations are different, too. For instance, way back the rich were "investing" in the condition of their souls, as it were; commissioning artworks to be placed in public religious spaces. You weren't likely to allow your humble offering to be garbage that might offend divinity and put you in a bad light with the commonfolk.
Nowadays its pure investment and ego - being thought of as aesthetically sophisticated by a narrow social clique which also contains potential future buyers. So after you've sunk money into some expensive garbage, you've invested yourself in perpetuating the scam so your investment keeps value. It's like a very elaborate and ritualistic ponzi scheme. Eventually somebody will be left holding the bag.
The mayor met a thief that could have been Obama's son and then got beat up by two of Obama's daughters. His great sin? Trying to interfere with the equal oportunity and civil liberties of a repressed yet protected class. His mistake? Unlike Zimmerman he was unarmed. It would be an interesting question to ask the mayor; "if you had a gun would you, while being beaten, draw it and shot your attacker to stop the attack on your life? I have wondered outloud on more then ne occasion if George Zimmerman didn't in fact save some poor soul's life down the road when Trayvon would have graduated from his thuggery to armed robery and killed his next victim. We will never know, and that's a good thing for somene.
