We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I see it as a wearing away of the Progs. Every "crisis" they evoke erodes their ability to get attention just a bit more. Not unlike the media and gun controller blood of the victims dance they trot out at each tragedy. People see it for what it is and no longer listen.
Coming to ignore them is the best outcome. Although we do need to be prepared for them to go all bunny in the pot on us.
I think that the statements the duck man made were not nearly as intolerant or hateful as the left and GLAAD had hoped for. But they took it anyway, hook line and sinker. This created a problem in that anyone could see that the left was over reacting and forced to lie about or distort what the duck man actually said in order to make it look bad. So instead of exposng these ignorant Southerners as racist homophobes it exposed the left and GLAAD as angry and intolerent bigots whose agenda is to tear down anyone who doesn't embrace their belief system completely. The bad news is the left and GLAAD remain unrepentant and are out there lying in wait for the next person who stumbles into their web.
Yes and no. Let us not fall into the error of thinking that great swaths of public opinion are moved by logic, truth, and consistency. The critics, led by GLAAD, have successfully portrayed Robertson as less cool than they are in the eyes of many consumers of popular media. They got to use the words "hate," "bigoted," and "Bible" in the same lead paragraphs repeatedly. They have created an impression as well as making an argument. That the argument has been significantly discredited is all to the good. Yet I don't think that was ever their strongest suit.
