Cynical Response: "Multiculturalism" is essentially a sub rosa general attack on traditional Western values; or at least, whether understood by its various proponents as such, that's how it operates. Where traditional values of non-Western cultures are shared by the West, it doesn't matter because those alien cultures are meant to generally displace and diffuse those of the West - in a caustic solution, as it were. Whatever the nature of those foreign cultures, so long as they erode Western values they advance this goal and aren't subjected to the same moral judgments as the West.

Presumably Multiculturalists believe that once they've done enough damage to their native culture they will move on to correct the moral failings of the cultures they've embraced, believing those cultures will be as tractable as the one they've destroyed. About that I believe they are very wrong.

A less cynical response might be that the Multiculturalists simply fail to take their own creed seriously - that is, they fail to take foreign cultures seriously on those culture's terms. Instead they understand and analyze those cultures entirely on their terms. Alienated from their own cultures, they don't appreciate that, say, Muslim North Africans are perfectly confident in their own culture, not embarrassed by it, and not interested in changing it. They don't appreciate how alien foreign cultures can be, and hostile not just to traditional Western values, but theirs, too. So they aren't bothered by the kind of apparent hypocrisy you point out.
