We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Of course it is, Camille. Christianity and Judaism are not PC. Thought Crime requires Thought Police.
But hey, remember this: MSNBC Host "Rev." Sharpton Hurls Homophobic Slur – “You’re a Punk Fagg*t!”. The rules about who can say what are getting confusing these days. Our approach is to say whatever you think, but to show decent manners not out of fear, but out of civility.
Personally, I can agree with some of what Phil said, disagree with some of it. Either way, I have no problem with him saying what he believes. Nor do I have a problem with his critics saying what they believe.
What I do have a problem with is anyone trying to tell someone they disagree with to shut up. Which is essentially what the LGBT community has done to Phil. If your own position is so weak that you have to resort to intolerance of the other positions ability to be heard, you have no business complaining when someone else tries to shut YOU up. A free market of ideas presumes everyone has the opportunity to speak their mind and their heart - not just the people some self-selected group decides to approve of.
A&E has a real problem. They've proven themselves to be spineless, but they have a business risk no matter what they chose to do. They caved to a vocal special interest group that probably wasn't a big part of their viewer audience, and have inadvertently awakened a rather large pissed off group of current viewers. I suspect they made a bad choice - but given they are part of the liberal entertainment industry, it was probably predictable.
