Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Re - Harvard to ban single-use drinking water - if they can ban these, they can ban just about anything else.
Re - Sebelius' investigation - why am I getting that Casablanca Claude Raines vive? I agree with that Engineer's line of thought. Its utterly amazing how (it seems) no project management activity was used in the endeavor. Or, if it was, it was either trumped, or forgotten. Something this crucial and nessasary to the law and have it crash\burn this spectacular is beyond belief. Who'd Sebelius contract - Larry, Moe, and Curly?? I actually laughed when I saw that headline about the college kids wanting to ban water bottles. Who knew my college campus was so environmentally friendly 20+ years ago? We drank out of water fountains found inside each building on campus. Wow! We were ahead of our time.
;-) Re - Harvard banning water bottles. More humor from the lefties. Next up: Harvard is banning beer in bottles, will have a two for one benefit: beer creates CO2. How could the smartest college in the country miss eliminating the CO2 and reducing their carbon foot print? In fact all alcohol production creates CO2 -- beer, wine, whiskey, gasoline additive. How does Harvard live with its self?
What does that guy know? He's just an engineer. He's not educated like the Liberal artists that set up Obamacare. But it does illustrate why no engineers were given a say in the project. They are so negative with their obsession with step 2.

That means they think somebody is about to talk. Either that or now that Bush flew on AF1, they figure they can blame him. Thanks for another Norman Rockwell!
Another problem with education is the PTB don't teach punctuation rules anymore. The WSJ is finally (!) getting tired of the progressives in our midst. Please excuse for the re-post.
Regarding Rockwell: Please compare the actions taken during Mao's regime and the events in our country over the past 20 years. Dismantle the legal system Dismantle family ties and the power of families/local communities Dismantle the economic system Destroy the religious system Destroy the meaning of visible icons (ala Rockwell) When you compare these actions with the events in this country surely BD you can understand why the focus on Rockwell. Please tell me you don't think it's because the world really cares about who uses rubber duckies in the bath tub? Can anyone here at MF explain to me when it was that UPS (Brown trucks-non government) began delivering packages to the local post office (governmental agency)? I know that UPS has been trying to put the US Postal Service out of business for years (gotta give it to those folks in Seattle they want it all (all the power from all the communication/transportation systems)
However, it used to be that when you ordered something delivered by UPS (brown trucks) it went directly to the final destination--not to the local post office for them to deliver to the final destination. Has anyone here heard about this new relationship? Thank you, Seen in action, seems to be a way to keep the Postal Service in business. Since I paid express mail rates (and not UPS rates) for the shipping, all that matters to me is that the package gets here in one piece and timely. More details from UPS here. In some ways, its no different from handing your mail to a neighbor to drop off while he is town.
I've lived in a couple of pretty rural places in my life. I think UPS found that dropping things off at the post office for delivery saved them time and money. Also, one place I lived in had pretty harsh winters with icy roads...and my house was way up a canyon that was tricky to get to if you were a larger vehicle. UPS just wouldn't deliver there!
Actually, UPS has been delivering to post offices for some time. When I was younger and lived in a (then very) rural area, the only way to drop stuff off was at the post office. We had a box up there, and twice a day it was my job to go see what deliveries we'd had.
Well, it became once a day when I figured out that a visit at 3pm didn't put anyone out. But sometimes, we expected things so I'd go in the AM and then again in the PM. The UPS guy would deliver there, until he got to know me and I told him where he could drop stuff off. But yeah, they've done it for years, as far as I know. Re: Carter on airplane
Soooo, now let me see: Bush Jr, the drug lords (Clinton) and the Chicago mafia puppet--can anyone tell me why Carter chose to fly on another plane to Mandela's funeral. Why he did not want to be seen with this triumvirate of stupid and evil? You wanna bet JR is going to finally get let into the inner circle and play with the bad boys/girls? Trimming the criminal code, a good idea however, everybody has an annoyance (sagging pants, loud boom boxes, roasting meat smell) or interest (only licensed plumbers can touch that) that they want the state's hammer to fix. A point of consideration, Alabama has a felony offenses of Flogging While Masked and Assault, Second Degree which cover the same act. Imagine the press reaction if the Flogging charge (an anti KKK measure) was done away with.
The Warren Way, to encourage diversity of opinion some opinions must be suppressed seems about right. Her thin skin will be her down fall. Love that Oxford comma bit!
DC skyline: Keep it short. We don't need to cram more people into DC. They should live in a state and pay state taxes. Kids order food: Only parents should care, and enforce. WELL! Can't let THAT happen. How much redistribution is enough? 150%. Next question! Yay for Oregon! More proof Dems don't know what they're doing. Unaffordable Care Act and Aegis: Easier to deal with technical problems than Congress and uncounted administrators and lobbyists who want mutually exclusive outcomes. Dear Miss T and Walt:
Thank you for your input--however, these packages are being delivered in major metropolitan core areas--so limited physical access is not the issue. Has there been any news out there about this new relationship? Walt I didn't see the right page when I linked to your link. Thank you anyway. Sorry, try this one it works gooder.
A good question would be is this a subsidy like the when steam ships, express riders, rail roads and now, airlines are used to move mail from point A to point B or is it profitable for the USPS? Lets be honest. Almost any of us could have "fixed" healthcare in the U.S. and/or found some logical way to provide insurance for the 30 milion (or 50 million or 10 million, no one knows) who didn't have insurance. And we could have done it without 3000 pages of legislation or 50 million pages of bureaucratic regulation. Obamacare was not so much abut fixing healthcare as it was about the billions and perhaps trillions of pork available to politicians, lobbyist and Democrat donors. Also don't forget that under it all it is a machine to sign up Democrat voters. All this angers me, I fear for our country and for our great healthcare system being sacrificed in the hope that Democrats might be able to sieze power for the next 100 years. But what angers me more is the Republicans who in the vain hope that the media will finaly treat them fair choose to "allow Obamacare to go forward and let people suffer because maybe then they will vote Republicans into office". A handful of conservative Republicans tried to end Obamacare and give 310 million Americans relief but even then the rino Republicans balked because they want the chaos that Obamacare will cause. Both sides of the aisle are willing to destroy our healthcare system, dramatically increase our debt and allow millions of Americans to suffer for political gain. I would be very happy to see them all voted out in 2014 but I would prefer that our justice system actually worked and some of the people behind the scenes who walked away with massive graft payments were convicted and sent to jail. Since the DOJ has been kidnaped by radical leftist and is too busy installing communist into appointed positions and punishing any Americans who dare object, I don't think justice will prevail anytime soon. What would it take to reverse this suicidal trend? First our media would have to take off their blinders and begin reporting the truth. Second a majority of the American public would have to wake up and consider that our future and constitution are more important then "Survivor" and "DWTS". I see no sign that anythng like this will happen. Just keep the welfare and unemployment payments coming and and no one will care what happens to our country.
This is too bad--I really like Simpson. However, she makes a very good point. After the clear fraud, greed and lack of transparency or integrity that Wall Street has just demonstrated ala Steve Cohen (against whom we must not bring criminal charges) why in the world would I leave what little retirement I have (SS) to the greedy bastards that run Wall Street? Why would I do that to myself? D'ya really think I want to pay you guys millions of dollars and reap 2 cents in return? There are no numbers showing growth, decline, or stability that will permit me to give those Bums control of my retirement. Do you folks get it now?
Here's another Montanan' thoughts: http://www.truthorfiction.com/rumors/s/Simpson-Vent.htm#.UqnsTyifM20 For you MFers that are on the Veteran's health care system here is a news flash for you. The website for your medical records is down. Has been down for at least 5 days. You, nor any doctor, nor any ER team can access your medical records on the veteran's website. My thought is that it is linked to the Obamacare debacle somehow. Any input would be appreciated.
My first read of this required a second look. I'm not used to reading "MFers" and thinking Maggie's Farm, and I've been here for a long time, now. LOL
I worried about that too! But, I thought for sure I had seen it used this way before! My apologies--love this crowd! ;-)
With regard to Federal Veterans Health website--it is down. Has been down for some "unknown" period of time and they "don't know when it will be up and running again." "It is a nationwide website and it is maintained back east somewhere." So for you folks who use the VA health system. Please do print out your current medications and doctors names, etc. cause your Veteran's health service website is most likely tied to the Obamacare mess! You can count on it being just another piece of the mess! Love the serial comma. Lawyers often disagree with me on this stating that they would never use this example in a will; but, here's an example that I have used over the years to highlight the importance of it:
Example 1: John died and in his will he left his property, to be divided among his children: Peter, Paul and Mary. Example 2: John died and in his will he left his property, to be divided among his children: Peter, Paul, and Mary. In each example how much did each child get? Folks will debate how much each child got in Example 1; but Example 2 leaves not doubt that the money is divided into three parts. I'm sure you know there's a song about the Oxford Comma:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_i1xk07o4g In fact, I'm pretty sure the music video was shot on Maggie's Farm. Everyone Is a Criminal: On the Over-policing of America - Try to think of an aspect of everyday life that doesn’t somehow include the police.
What's interesting is that this article comes from a lefty icon, The Nation, one of the long-time cheerleaders for "more government is the solution." |
