We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
The booklist of possibles - not required - for each grade in Common Core is long. Any title that you pick will not be representative, as each attempts to please some constituency. It's the everyone-gets-a-medal approach to kiddie lit. That has its own problems, but examining the list for the more offensively leftist title isn't really fair.
I am neither a fan nor an opponent of Common Core. It's the latest educational fad, and thus won't do half the good nor half the harm that is predicted. It is, after all, an attempt to put some structure on the execrable NCLB of Bush/Kennedy.

Only Nixon, an ardent anti-communist, could go to China.
Only Obama, an ardent neo-Marxist, could destroy the American middle class.
I know a couple of 3rd grade teachers that WILL totally go over the side if they are MANDATED to have THIS book in their school, let alone in their class room to brain-wash their children.
We will see how the teachers unions and the school boards and the school superintendents will handle these complaints from the teachers.
I hope some one complains to the Grand Juries of the various states and counties around the countries.
