Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

NOW WE KNOW: Admin knew Obamacare would terminate 1/2 of all Insurance Policies!
http://commoncts.blogspot.com/2013/10/now-we-know-admin-knew-obamacare-would.html It's amazing, I'm starting to see Obamacare defenders argue that the President's lies were so transparent, we were crazy to believe them. (Not that I did, I guess they have a point there.) But it's a nice change from the usual "if you squint just right it looks like he said something 1% different."
But Valerie Jarrett's approach really takes the cake. Obamacare delenda est. Fun reading the comments about Italy in the NYTimes. "So what if Italy has 70% unemployment? Free healthcare!"
Valerie Jarrett: It's not the fall that kills you. It's the sudden stop.
...big government can't deliver on extensive endeavors. Yes it can. A big, or for that matter small government can succeed at extensive endeavors if it sticks to the powers delegated to it by the Constitution. For example, World War II, interstate highways.... The problems start when a well meaning but inept Congress twists and distorts the meaning of general welfare and interstate commerce provisions in futile attempts to enact cures to social problems.
Frank Bruni: OK by me that Italy breaks his heart. Italy's doing what he thinks governments should do.
Amazon: The writer goes on about this as if he doesn't think this is a very good thing. Gummint is magic: Well, it would be if it worked. The Great Ballantine was a funny guy doing magic tricks badly. The Great Obama doesn't know how to do that, doesn't care that he doesn't know, and no longer cares if we know how ignorant he is. CGI Federal; Is anyone surprised by the latest example of cronyism? Unbearable Lightness of Barry: Ignorance on Parade! The Emperor has no clothes. TV adds them by CGI. It would be interesting to know who, what, and why Valerie Jarrett is what she is, and how she got there. I know about as much about her as Barry's college grades. Sam,
Its all by design - if the 'truth' of the past of BO, Val, et al ever had sunlight, or even a proper soap-box, they would have far less lucrative careers than they presently have - probably serving fries or other mundane vocations. Our media full well knows that Joe\Jane Sixpack would never stand for the pasts of these people, so its why its glanced over and sugar-coated\frosted. Even a dung cake looks good with frosting applied. Take a look at http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2013-10-28/guest-post-culture-ignorance-part-i - it shows this topic to be part of a greater malady That's why he didn't know. He was playing golf. Golf is keeping him out of trouble.
mmm... Valerie Jarrett (out of Chicago ?) did she travel the same road as Hillary Clinton? Just another daughter of the mob?
I hate to say this again--but, we really do need to acknowledge the reality of what is going on not only in the Obama administration, but within our education system as well. TOO, TOO many women have been moved into jobs for which they are not prepared!!! Not prepared by a course of academic study leading to a higher understanding of something other than political bullying! How about expecting that an administrator/decision maker/leader be required to have some well developed set of skills and understanding of a particular subject, i.e. math might be nice, or science, or systems, or . . . anything but a course in leadership training and a focus on developing defensive strategies. If you look at the Obama administration you will see that there are far too many women making decisions for which they are not truly prepared!! Leadership training does not replace the human ability to reason, said ability coming from several focused disciplines!!
You have to wonder what the best and brightest in the news business are doing. They aren't investigating Obama or Valerie Jarrett. 60 minutes just last Sunday discovered Benghazi, where were they before the election? Where are the smart and capable newsmen/women who are vying for Pulitzer prizes? Surely there is someone that Obama knew at Columbia or Harvard who can at least prove he was actually there. Other then smoke dope and sneak into Pakistan what did he do during those years? Same for Valerie Jarrett; the hand in the Obama sock puppet. Who are her friends and associates and what has she done? What connections does she have to Iran and the terrorists? Who are these people?
Time was, Woodward and Bernstein were the hallmarks of journalism, bringing the cleaning properties of light to the dark actions of the powerful.
Then, journalism took a turn - it went from providing information in a usable, portable form, to one of evangelizing. gone are Murrow, Ruddy Stark, and a whole hose of others whom made copy, headlines, and lived up to their bi-lines and assigned page-inches. But, today's journalism cannot hold a candle to the bygone likes. And, with far more sources available (cannot stand most domestic outlets), the internets have far more sources, which further erode our news markets, and even present their oversights with glaring clarity. And yet the water-holding media still toils in their ignorance and delusion to be 'fair and balanced', but their actions show them to be far from it. If we had true reporters with past journalistic passions, BO, Val Jarrett, and every other politician would feel the sting of the page-inch showcase, and go fetal in response. Whoa. If Woodward and Bernstein had been reporting on a Democratic president, the story would have never made it beyond the sports page or, more likely, fish wrap.
Look into Walter Duranty of the NYT and his conspiracy of silence as Stalin starved millions of Russians and Poles. Or try Herbert Matthews, again of the NYT, who sold Castro as anti-Communist worthy of U.S. sympathy. Or the role of William Randolph Hearst and Joseph Pulitzer in starting the Spanish-American War. The media has long been the ready co-conspirator for whomever the owners support and the propagandists for many of the problems we now face. The Internet might be more the saving grace than pamphlets, newspapers, radio, TV and Hollywood. At least there's an opportunity for those so inclined to fact check (and not at those political "fact checkers" so named and underwritten by, once again, propagandists). This Chris Matthews bit is hysterical. Apparently he watched the 60 Minutes spot this week and discovered for the first time that there were real problems with that Benghazi story. Now he is resolved to get to the bottom of them, because that's the kind of journalist he is!
http://hotair.com/archives/2013/10/29/matthews-say-why-didnt-we-respond-to-benghazi-attack/ But I guess we should be grateful that a little bit of news is puncturing the bubble of guys like him this month. The MSM generally seems to be wobbling. Re: BLACKLISTS
Dear Barrister, or someone else in the know: please come forward and tell us about the Blacklists that lawyers in a particular county, or state keep. Or, is it simply that their female legal assistants and office managers keep the lists in order to work within the NOW? Please tell us how these "legal community" blacklists work. Thank you, My understanding is Ms. Jarrett was born in Iran as her parents went there after WWII. Her father, who became a prominent physician in Chicago, wanted to study blood pathologies and diseases, specifically those acquired genetically. I don't believe that experience, which lasted until she was about five years old, gave her contacts still alive today.
But, both her parents were part of the U. of Chicago community which attracts international attendance from professors, students and donors in, most recently, Middle Eastern studies. Both sides of the family were part of the black political in-crowd. Her maternal grandfather, an architect, was the Chicago Housing Authorities first black chairman. That's a long story in the mythology that is Chicago Southside and racial divisions. Her father-in-law was a noted member of the media and communist community in Chicago, and a comrade of Frank Marshall Davis, Obama's mentor. Her mother co-founded the Erickson Institute for early-childhood education, a huge influence on programming for Head Start, and presently heads the Chicago Board of Education's early childhood department. Valerie entered the political fray as part of the Harold Washington mayoral administration, stayed on to serve Richard Daley, later heading a real estate firm known for some slumlord problems and serving on many politically important boards. Washington, a black, was a neighbor, another member of the Hyde Park community, the location of the U. of Chicago. In short, she is a part of a wealthy, connected, influential family of black heritage that has been politically connected for several generations. Her birth in Iran is less the problem than her association with the Middle Eastern money infiltrating politics, education and academia with fingers into the corporate world. The tangled web among all these parts gets scary when you consider how much power they hold on directing of our country as the government grows and grows and grows with less influence from the citizens. You mean University of Illinois like this guy?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cary_Nelson The "Tenured Radical" Do a good thorough search of the AAUP and Antioch University and Cary Nelson's involvement with financial aid fraud. He's a protected person so . . . And now . . . the new man who heads up the Dept. of English at UI follows in Nelson's footsteps.
http://www.english.illinois.edu/people/mpr Interesting to note that a female faculty member in that department originally made a public presence when she came out against Antioch's pedagogy/value system. However, Mr. Nelson stepped in and brought her to his department at UI. Got a nice big house with a low cost mortgage to boot! Wonder why that was? oh boy--on a roll here. Would you like to see another piece of the UI/Chicago/Insurance Fraud collaboration?
http://www.sos.wa.gov/heritage/biographies/DeborahSenn.aspx Why do I think the problem at Amazon is that the common share holders aren't getting dividend checks or some other tastes of the cake. As it stands, they have to eat the cake by selling.
A look at voter turn out numbers (especially congressional and local races) will show the kids aren't all right. However, part of maturing is the realization they made the bed lumpy and now got to fix it. off topic:
"Deep below the streets of New York City lie its vital organs—a water system, subways, railroads, tunnels, sewers, drains, and power and cable lines—in a vast, three-dimensional tangle. Penetrating this centuries-old underworld of caverns, squatters, and unmarked doors, William Langewiesche follows three men who constantly navigate its dangers: the subway-operations chief who dealt with the devastation of Hurricane Sandy, the engineer in charge of three underground mega-projects, and the guy who, well, just loves exploring the dark, jerry-rigged heart of a great metropolis." http://www.vanityfair.com/politics/2013/10/new-york-city-underground-subway-danger "Increasingly, the US government’s many police forces (often state and local ones as well) operate militarily and are trained to treat ordinary citizens as enemies.
The focus on “Homeland Security” has only added “terrorism” to our ruling class’ excuses for “going after” conservative Americans. And so, the Department of Homeland Security uses its intelligence “fusion centers” to compile ominously worded dossiers against such groups as “pro-lifers” and such “anti government activists” as “homeschoolers” and “gun owners.” The FBI infiltrates the Tea Parties as it once did the Communist Party. DHS conducts its “practice runs” against mockups of these groups. The IRS audits conservative groups. In a casual conversation, a friendly employee of the US Forest Service bemoaned to me that he was on his way to a US Army base, where he and colleagues would practice military tactics against persons who resist regulations. A forester, he had hoped to be Smokey the Bear. Instead, he said, “we are now the Department of Provocation.” In fact every US government agency, and most state and local ones now police their ever burgeoning regulations with military equipment, tactics, and above all with the assumption that they are dealing with people who should not be dealt with any other way." http://www.libertylawsite.org/2013/10/27/the-war-on-us/ |
