We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
"After all, Ayers told Halperin, the U.S. was “waging a genocidal war.”"
And there is the problem we face. Anybody who says or believes that is either too dishonest or too stupid to try to have a dialog with. Since a great deal of our fellow citizens fall into that group, where does that leave us?
Its always amazing how these dip-sticks can catter-wall about how eeeeevil the system, and Amerkia, is, yet profit from it with speaking engagements, book deals, and miniseries'. Gosh, even live in a posh section of Chi-town, and even chum with the Choom-king.
Talk about opportunism and 'down for the struggle'...
The decline in personal giving is troublesome, is "I paid taxes" the new "I gave at the office"?
The uptick in anti-gambling talk always seems to related to the venues that jeopardize the existing betting places as well as the uptight.
Isolationists/"mind our own knitting" crowd should be happy that China wants to de-americanize. Can't go to war if you can't pay for it. However, concern for their own pocketbooks and partisanship will matter more.
Ending racial preferences, that ship has just about sailed unless say, Pacific Islanders or some even smaller group (Sami in Upper Michigan?) starts demanding their cut.
RE: De-Americize the World - I am all in favor of this, along with everything that goes with it - responding to issues (wars, (everything but) peace-keeping, disaster relief, ect), student\worker visas (for the loss of the brain-power and the inroads it detracts from our own home-grown talent), and all the other generosities that we provide, but get back-lip for it?
I know that they are distrustful of our Governance, but don't take it out on the land or the people - the dysfunction of DC is even beyond the resolution of its people, sans violent solutions...
The State use to ban gambling, still do if you try to have a poker game in your house among friends, and now they're Gambling's biggest proponents thru Lottery tickets and Casinos; albeit to fund the States crushing debt liabilities:
Skip around that site some and you'll notice since the Freddy/Fannie mortgage tank where hence your job went part-time and your 401k got spent -- those in "Public Service" may "feel your pain" but they're still getting their 3% annual raises right on time . . .
I don't know if you could find a more perfect example of DC being out of touch or wasteful government spending. Note how they like to highlight that this garden was started with just $200 in seed and amendments but has produced thousands of pounds of produce. Not mentioned is the platoon of highly paid government employee gardeners, off-site greenhouse support operation, nor the organic vegetable farmer hired to specifically ensure the garden's success. Someone should FOIA the budget allotted to this "kitchen garden".
Really, read it if you want a good laugh at the hypocrisy of so much wasteful spending, greenhouse gas creation, energy usage in a "sustainable" locavore garden.
This full-socialized medical plan with a special dispensation for the politicians and (mostly government) unions is beyond belief. Stretches credulity that it could even be proposed in the USA. If we're going to go down this path? Everybody in! Forget about what the future and the history of socialism portends for a moment (and it's not good) by golly our leaders should at least participate de jure. Throwing all the peasants out onto the exchanges while the politicians and teachers get the gold-plated plan . . . shame, shame.
