We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Ever notice how over-represented African-Americans are in TV and print ads these days? And how under-represented white males are? If you were an alien from another planet who was watching American TV, you'd think all males of the human species are black, while the females come 50-50 black or white. And of course practically no one is ever "yellow." When it comes to advertising, ignoring Asian-Americans doesn't count as blatant prejudice, right?
The Garofalo ad was sly and very humorous...and not just about the food. Look how they paired the different kinds of pasta. That arrangement wasn't just by accident.
His problem was that he was a simple honest man with a traditional upbringing who was not accustomed to lying to cater to every special interest group in the world. His comments were hardly unreasonable or hateful and probably 90% of the world would agree with his statement. But in todays world you have to assume "you" are the Neanderthal and the special interest people are the enlightened chosen ones who can make Sexist, Misogynistic, Homophobic, Classist or Racist statements without fear that the media will hold them to any standard.
