We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Somewhere in my huge repository of old slides, I have pictures of the cathedral from 1966. My wife and I spent part of our (slightly delayed) honeymoon in Barcelona during the Christmas holidays that year, staying in a hotel that was located near the church. In fact, I took my first nighttime photo ever of one of the colorfully lighted fountains in the city streets on that trip. (I'm hoping eventually to digitize my entire slide collection but unfortunately that project is proceeding at the same leisurely pace as the church construction in Barcelona.)
It's also the most beautiful church in Christendom. It's the only modernist church I've ever seen which respects and incorporates the previous two millennia of ecclesiastical architecture, instead of engaging in petty adolescent rebellion.
Fascinating - the convergence of undying faith, continual devotion to fundraising, and millennial advancement in construction-technology materials and application...
Should be a truly magnificent thing to see, when completed, especially at sunrise...
