We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
"My friend and I were hooked on after-school reruns of M*A*S*H, which depicted the Korean War as a khaki-clad orgy of no-regrets cot-hopping."
That is the singularly stupidest thing I have ever read on the Internet -- and that's saying a LOT.
Hot Lips and Frank had a perfectly moral, non-promiscuous relationship that lasted for years. While there was a lot of leering on Hawkeye's part, the few episodes where he was actually involved with a nurse had nothing to do with sex and everything to do with personal feelings.
And the word "orgy" implies more than two people, whereas they never even came CLOSE to such a thing. In 11 years of broadcast, not once did they ever show two people (much less more than two) in bed together.
Furthermore, when you're 5,000 miles from home and surrounded by blood and death all day long, maybe -- just MAYBE -- a little "cot-hopping" would be in order, just to keep you from -- you know -- doing something like commit suicide.
The question, of course, is if the author exaggerated THAT to such extremes, what else in the article did she exaggerate to similar extremes?
For any M*A*S*H aficionados out there, you might enjoy this:
Perfectly put, big guy. I skimmed over the comments and a whole shitload of people mocked the post. I gather that's the last time she'll ever write about THAT subject!
For all the damage the sixties’ radicals did—and it was considerable—we should be glad they were posers like Ayers and not the real Maoists they admired.
I made the point, as an atheist/agnostic, that if the only condition for god to let me into heaven was that I believe in Him that seems like an awful petty god that I would want little to do with. If I live a good life that should be enough to earn my salvation regardless of what I choose to do with my Sundays. The only response I was given was, 'What if you're wrong?'.
The author rebuked her friend saying woman shouldn't screw like a man i.e. having a series of one night stands. A common misconception when discussing sex between men and women seems to be that the men are doing something that women do not do as in this case, one night stands. Logic and basic math would tell you that for every one night stand a man partakes in there was a woman who was also having a one night stand. Are these societal or gender based misconceptions or merely wishful thinking?
Well, I recall one ep where Hawkeye and HotLips wer in a slit trench (or some shelter) under artillery fire, and the implication I got was that while sheltering there they did have sex. One time; no more.
State Senate President John Morse, who helped lead efforts in the state legislature to ban ammunition magazines with more than 15 rounds and to require background checks for private gun sales and transfers, said he had "absolutely no regrets" about pushing the gun-control measures.
in related news, Capt. Smith assured White Star that the deck chairs were aligned "perfectly".
