We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. History's Mysteries: The Obama '57 States' Meme

All right-wingers know the story of Obama and his infamous "57 states" comment.  Here's a quick sampling:

Obama thinks the United States has 57 states and that the Marine Corps is pronounced "corpse" yet I am not to think he's not a naturally born citizen of the United States?

Obama thinks there are 57 states - and he even stopped to think before he answered! Funny for a man who was supposed to have grown up in Hawaii! When will we get the truth about this man?



Obama's Little Lies A Big Problem



Not surprising considering he forgot to mention that 22 Congressional Democrats sided with the Republicans to delay the individual mandate. But this is the same man who thought America had 57 states. Clearly, counting isn't one of his strongest points.



Now, for hopefully the last time, let me be as persuasive as I can be:


President Obama does NOT BELIEVE THERE ARE 57 STATES!!


He believes there are 60.



Traveled to every corner of the United States = 57

Didn't visit Alaska and Hawaii = 2

One left to go = 1

60.

He simply couldn't have been any clearer.

Oh, now that was funny. I admit, I was a '57' believer. So much thanks for the correction.

The lesson here is, if you're gonna push a meme, at least get your facts straight.

I, too, must ashamedly admit I was of the '57' crowd. I sit corrected. As you said, the guy's being clear as a bell, so it's pretty amazing so many people got it wrong. Maybe it's all that addition that threw them.

Bob - I prefer the term 'kooky', but probably no sense in quibbling.

And yeah, I agree, it is something of a puzzle, especially since he said "one more" right away, so you'd think the meme would at least be '58'.

      Well, I wrote that back before Detroit had the fame and recognition it does today. The next time I have the editor open, I'll change it to some other throwaway city that no one would miss. Detroit is starting to hold its own special spot in American heritage and shouldn't be trifled with.

        So, what you're saying is, all of those people who think he said '57' don't understand the difference between American states and Islamic states? You can't be referring to Obama since he clearly was referring to '60', as the video proved. Ergo, you mean the right-wingers. That's a pretty harsh indictment, don't you think?
