Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

http://www.skepticalscience.com/pics/NCDC_Escalator.gif QUOTE: William Teach: Bummer: Satellite Records Still Not Following UN IPCC Prognostications The first chart shows a distinct warming trend since the 1970s. The next two charts show only the tropical mid-troposphere. The fourth chart is from Ljungqvist 2010. Notice the rapidly rising instrumental record at the far right of the chart. - xposted to Pirate's Cove Here’s the thing: “skeptics” are not arguing warming. I will argue with anyone who proclaims there hasn’t been warming since the end of the Little Ice Age, and any who fail to note that, yes, there was a nice uptick starting in the late 1970′s. What we are arguing is causation. Warmists say it is mostly or solely caused by Mankind, primarily through the greenhouse gas CO2, what they unscientifically call “carbon”. We say that most, if not all of the temperature increases are caused by natural forces. If the Warmists were right, we’d continue to see statistically significant increasing temperatures. Real world data doesn’t show this. And real world data beats garbage in garbage out computer models every time.
You're not going to convince any of the "True Believers" - scientific truth isn't in their lexicon. Observational evidence isn't "evidence". Manufactured facts and science are much more important to them than scientific truth.
The alarmists are the descendents of the "flat earth" variety or the terra centric variety. Any evidence contrary to their belief system is false and heresy - to them. Capt'n Tom,
I know that as do you. Just wanted to confirm that Team "Z" had read the whole article before he "knee jerked" another reply. Cheers. Garry: confirm that Team "Z" had read the whole article
We did. It was very short.

Garry: If the Warmists were right, we’d continue to see statistically significant increasing temperatures
That is incorrect. Climate scientists posit multiple influences on climate, so do not predict a monotonic increase in global mean surface temperatures. Large quantities of aerosols are being emitted in Asia, cooling the climate, while the Pacific has undergone a double-dip La Niña, which brings cool waters to the ocean surface, absorbing excess heat from the atmosphere. Funny. The Warmenist graphs all LOOKED like they predicted a monotonic increase. But that was before they knew they needed to take into account a stall.
How about if I predict cooling? Then when you point to recent warming, I can say, "Well, I never claimed the cooling would be monotonic." Texan99: The Warmenist graphs all LOOKED like they predicted a monotonic increase.
The Earth continues to absorb more energy than it emits. However, there is a great deal of fluctuation of mean temperature due to a variety of influences, such as ENSO. Texan99: How about if I predict cooling? You would have to show why your proposed mechanism of cooling, perhaps aerosols, has a great long term impact than greenhouse gases, plus you would have to explain how the current absorption of heat by the Earth is consistent with long term cooling.

"Make it up?", you mean like the esteemed Dr. Mann et al and their numeric sligh-o-hand? Wonder how his legal action is progressing...
Gosh, Science is pure, golden, and beyond reproach! Even thinking its done for nefarious reasons is down-right mean. Tell me again, how many signatories still exist on the UN document still bandied about from the original? I seem to remember it going below a K, instead of several K's....

Very recent news on that case. Superior Court of the District of Columbia, 7/19/2013: "There is sufficient evidence presented that is indicative of 'actual malice.' The CEI Defendants have consistently accused Plaintiff of fraud and inaccurate theories, despite Plaintiff’s work having been investigated several times and found to be proper. The CEI Defendants’ persistence despite the EPA and other investigative bodies’ conclusion that Plaintiff’s work is accurate (or that there is no evidence of data manipulation) is equal to a blatant disregard for the falsity of their statements."

fred Zeppelin,
"Hockey Stick Graph In one Climategate e-mail dated November 1999, CRU chief P.D. Jones wrote to Michael Mann, Raymond Bradley, and Malcolm Hughes: “ I've just completed Mike's Nature trick of adding in the real temps to each series for the last 20 years (ie from 1981 onwards) amd from 1961 for Keith's to hide the decline.[45] ” Michael Mann's hockey stick graph hid the real declining temperatures and instead showed a warming trend.[46] Mann's graph portrayed temperatures as steadily declining since medieval times and then sharply rising in the last century and a half. Notably, his reconstruction fueled claims that 1998 and following years had the highest temperatures in 1,000 years. Once it became publicly known that man-made global warming is a hoax, as a direct result of the e-mail discussing a "trick" for adding data to each temperature series for the last 20 years, Climategate motivated the making of a video called, "Hide The Decline." QUOTE: “I've just completed Mike's Nature trick of adding in the real temps to each series for the last 20 years (ie from 1981 onwards) amd from 1961 for Keith's to hide the decline.” The decline refers to a known anomaly called the divergence problem, due to the modern decline in tree ring growth. Adding current day instrumental data to proxy reconstructions is perfectly valid.

It's a known divergence problem alright...between the truth and the fraud that is AGW. Ease back on the KoolAid.

No, it has to do with tree ring growth rates. We have fairly good records of weather going back centuries. We can compare these to tree rings. They correlate until modern times, at which point, they diverge.

Christine, girl yall need to put on a hoody to get down with the hood's civil rights movement.
Trayvon's murder is tragic and is proper ground for civil rights movement coming certainly to yall's chocolate vanilla swirl hood to stand ground. People get ready... America voted for to become Detroit and there is no bailor available.
Yall, yankees ought take a few swimming lessons. http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/danielhannan/100227375/obamanomics-is-turning-america-into-detroit-ayn-rands-starnesville-come-to-life/ That was a good link, Leag. I haven't read Atlas Shrugged since college and had forgotten this. The comparison of Starnesville to Detroit is uncanny.
Pleased to be of service.
Meself has never been to Detroit buit thought of moving there about a year back. Money to made made amongst the rubes and mucks, me thought . But then me met a really smart Tomato Girl who ain't got much time for mwe but she sure can tie string quick. So, here me stay in the Capital of the world waitin to look at her, again. The really humorous thing about ObamaCare is that anyone supporting it takes its premises seriously.
Price controls do not work and essentially the insurance side is nothing more than an all-encompassing price control mechanism that is supposed to displace market pricing. Hah! Furthermore, the idea that the entire nation of ours is going to sit still for a bunch of bureaucrats deciding what care people can buy and what they cannot buy is so astoundingly silly as to almost defy comprehension. People will buy whatever they want, and God forgive any government functionary who seriously threatens that right. Doctors will practice on the private (black) market. Patients will buy on the black market. And the "government" can just go twiddle its thumbs. Unfortunately when government thumb twiddling can cause a lot of damage and can be very expensive.
I thought Nixon's wage and price controls from the 70's were finally accepted as being dysfunctional. But it seems Obamacare is just Zombies rising from the dead once again. Can we finally give it a headshot this time around?
Re: Saving Detroit
"America is just as much about aiding those less fortunate as it is about personal responsibility. Government does this in so many ways; why shouldn’t it help Detroit rebuild itself?" America is about helping those who are less fortunate through no fault of their own, or at least have made an effort to avoid the misfortunes they face. That's not the case with Detroit. The city of Detroit negligently created and invited the problems it now faces and did so with eyes wide open. Tough, they did the crime, now do the time. Businesses fail and vanish into the ether all the time. Cities are no different. They are not too big to fail; they have no claim on immortality. A federal bailout of Detroit would reward years of irresponsible behavior, by the city and by the financial enablers who willingly funded Detroit into bankruptcy, and it would invite even more cities to behave badly in the future. What me likes most about yall yankers; given enough rope yall even toss an end over the same branch, huh Detroit.
I propose we send Kerry to negotiate a land transfer with the Canadians. They get Detroit and a Keystone permit; we get 139 sq. mi. of MB adjoining ND. We would come out way ahead, and they might be sucker enough take it.
BillH,
Now...now...'nuff of that talk. I do understand that an offer is being made for Detroit's half of the Ambassador Bridge, though. Why shouldn't Government help Detroit rebuild itself?
Absolutely. Isn't that the point of Government, to take money at gunpoint and use it to replicate outstanding failures? Otherwise, the failures might be self-limiting. I always confuse J. Carney with J. Carrey. Which one stars in the WH pressers called "Dumb and Dumber"? To me they are both loud-mouthed comedians.
What's going on with the spam dealie, BD? Leag makes nastier comments than I do.
Ignore it and repost.
There is no one here nastier than the girl called wizard or buddy who like Trayvon knows how to salute. When i post in one of girly Wizard's posts he deletes, maybe she does it to yall, also. She ranges into Bird Dog's area and posts fuck word but it's doubtfull, she can do much more than schlogging even with her boots on. --i'd be glad to show you how to salute, Leag --where can i find you?
Buddy it ain't mystery where me self may be found but a little attention not much wider than yall's middle finger be necessary.
Curious Trayvon was criminalized for flying his IQ. Yall may find me in Capital of the world after mass in me favorite umpire's estate most mornings. Parachute in anytime, ranger. Coffee will be me pleasure to serve ya. Curious, yall cain't find me on yer own. Shouldna bailed out GM. shouldna bail out Detroit. Not sure which management is more stupid, but am sure which was and remains more corrupt.
Jerry Brown: Living proof of the corruption of the big media. Re: Detroit Bailout
I think BO will bail out Detroit. First he'll wait for the demonstrations, the charges of racism against those who would oppose a bailout, the violence that will almost certainly erupt as the situation with salaries, services, perks and pensions erodes. Then he will use the situation to engage in demagoguery and in the end he'll push through some kind of bailout. If he has to do so with executive orders he will. Because that is who he is. |
