We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
It would be good for cities to offload pensions on the federal pension guarantee fund, I think.
Low interest rates have made lots of corporate pensions underfunded (not any longer earning enough to pay pensions out of income), which leads corporations to send out warning notices that they may terminate their pensions and offload it on the federal fund.
From which notices to me I've learned that the federal fund doesn't guarantee rich payouts, only modest payouts.
From which I deduce that that would get rid of overgenerous pension costs very neatly.
The question is whether city and state pensions are covered by the federal guarantee. It would be neat if they were.
When Anthony Weiner wasn't sending photos of his penis to underage girls, was he busy doing our nation's business? Weiner is pathetic and only in present day America, NYC specifically, could such a man even be mentioned as a possible mayoral candidate without gales of laughter welling up from every direction.
Of course, without Huma's strong ties to Hillary and without Hillary's ties to Bill, we wouldn't have to endure any of this insanity. If the Islamists prevail, Weiner's redemption will be short lived because the Muslim Brotherhood will care deeply that he is a Jew when he's outlived his usefullness.
Will Obamacare survive? Of course it will. All government programs "survive." Think of all the government programs that live on long past their usefulness or logic. However, now that the Obama administration ha asserted it has the authority to postpone implementation of the parts of the law as it chooses, without the approval of Congress, his successors could also choose to postpone implementation of the law indefinitely, thereby making it the largest "living dead" zombie government program ever.
--lessee, let's have a zero participation arithmetic exam, say, 14,000 junk windmills, say each machine system weighs 14,000 lbs @ a half cost of $1.4 million, say dismantling doubles that and $200K interest expense brings each system to $3 million.
Say, there's 140,000,000 tax returns filed.
Say a pound of steel is the size of a golf ball (this is the only non-guess in the exam questions).
How many steel golf balls could every taxpayer make with his steel returns, if he or she has a backyard foundry & steel milling shop?
And since steel golf balls are heavy for golf, is there any market for rolling paperweights?
And what premium or discount, expressed in percentage terms, might be a market price a new owner uninterested in golf or paperweighting, expect as sale proceeds, relative to investment, expressed as his or her paid-in percentage of the original paid-in (i think that was $1.4 million X 14,000 --probably wildly underestimated).
Note, a 1.5 inch cube would also be a pound of steel (and is the other example wikianswers gives to 'how big is a pound of steel?'), and would be a far superior stationary stationery weight, but there'd be no dual-use feature as trying to putt with it would be futile.
