Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Happy 4th


Happy 4th, and, above all, Stay Ultra-Safe and Boring, America, as we try to remember those who heedlessly and recklessly spilled their blood for freedom from government power and control.





When I reflect on America's revolution against Parliament and King George, I usually conclude that those rebel ancestors had trivial complaints compared to what they would have today against the very government they so carefully planted.


Valley Forge did not have these rules, but they seem to have no rule against firearms.

Wrong park -

1) Incorrect name (i.e., "July 4th Park") for USA; call it what it really is or forget it.
2) Unacceptable attitude - especially (though not only) due to "...freedom from unreasonable search and seizure...".
3) You're doing it wrong - and if you don't already understand why, you're too dumb to understand the explanation.

If you planned to have ANY fun, your public park is not the place.
It has been seized, for your own good.

No sparklers, no brats, no shelter, no alcohol ?, umm nobody brings pets anyway for fireworks (just as an fyi).

If you have any fun, it is at your own risk.

Whether or not this sign is photoshopped: I feel terrible that so many men in so many wars died for this country, for its freedom -- now we have surveillance everywhere, and a government that runs everything. It's heart-breaking. They died in vain.

I used to despise liberals for their lack of patriotism, but now I understand, from a different direction. What about current America is there to love?

Why, these are not park rules at all....these are...HMA rules! Death to the HMAs of America!

Speaking of which, my aunt and uncle bought a plot of land in a new housing development. After submitting the plans to the association, they nixed her small tomato garden in the back yard, along with the deck, and the chosen paint color, which was an off-white, rather than the dingy gray-brown that they wanted them to paint it. She pleaded with them, and they still said no. So...she said, fine. We will not build at all on this plot, and we will let our children inherit this plot, and they will not build on it either. And this big empty plot will do nothing to improve the property values of your own properties, and it will be forever vacant.
They approved of her building plans and landscaping as well, and now everyone's house is off white, and everyone gets to have a deck and a garden. Thanks, Aunt Jean. You embody the spirit of independence well!

Great response from your aunt and uncle. Which reminds me of what someone said about the difference between rural and suburban. In a rural area, you can pee in your backyard without any uproar coming from the neighbors.
