Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Re: Obama Warns Africans If They Get Air Conditioning the “Planet Will Boil Over”
Is this from the lefty playbook of do as I say not as I do? (We'll keep our A/C but you guys can't have any because we'll all fry) Or is this the start of the argument that we should ALL get rid of our A/C? DC would be a lonely place - but then so would the South. Obummer's Southern Strategy? Hey, it worked with DDT and malaria eradication, why not with air conditioning?
And we should remember this was said by a man who went from an air conditioned plane to an air conditioned limousine, stayed in an air conditioned hotel or home and probably was in an air conditioned building when he said it. Reminds me of when he first took office and we learned of the "hot house" Oval Office Without A/C, Detroit would be a paradise compared to Houston.
Yup, all them union states suffering the voter and tax payer exodus to right-to-work states, would get a new lease on life, if only the Gulf of Mexico could be poisoned, the Rio Grande river turned into a Mad Max on Meth scenario bleeding northward to the Four Corners and thru the L.A. basin, and electricity made so expensive no one could afford A/C. (think, Macondo, Fast & Furious, Cap n' Trade). Sounds crazy, but so does the idea of Richard Trumka and Obama representing a power struggle that began on September 11, 1565, over 'cross or crescent' control of the Mediterranian islands from Sicily to Cyprus and Malta and the Fourth Crusade temple knight pledge to the Vatican to hold Tripoli. Maybe in the 1940s but not now. With no a/c but with the transportation and communications of today, no one would live in a dense urban area today. And the buildings built since 1950, all would be worthless due to no way to ventilate them.
I was in the federal building in Honolulu many years back when they blew the power to all of Oahu. In 1/2 an hour they had to let everyone off work because the building was becoming intolerable due to lack of ventilation. And that was without thousands of computers pumping out heat or the machinery rooms running. I lived in Southern Mississippi for a year or so without air conditioning or heat. I lived in the desert of Southern California for years and never turned the air conditioning on. Sure it got hot but no big deal. I bought a new car a few years ago and they had to custom build it because they couldn't find what I wanted in stock. I wanted no air conditioner on the car but they put one on anyway. I never use it, I prefer an open window when it's hot. I think most people are simply spoiled by air conditioning and think it's necessary when it is simply a luxury.
Love the pic! What a great juxtaposition of choice.
Oh I don't know about the South being empty, fewer maybe, but I grew up down there without A/C. Now, fans on the other hand... And I suspect that it is the start of us all getting rid of our A/C's. That way we can shut down those pesky coal fired power plants - no demand. What Kenyon college was incapable of teaching Proctor was that all cultures are not equal. A vibrant culture is what got a Catholic priest beheaded. A 14% US population vibrantly commits nearly 50% of the violent crime in the US. Beware of vibrant.

Gee, Salon in off the party line, here. Don't know about the Deep Web, but I read that porn sites are being put into 'ignore' status on search engines, or being summarily dropped by hosting sites. Go, Rep. Pike, GO! Good on ya! LA schools: Probably can't teach Obamacare any better than anything else, go get the kids to care about it, either. Yes, the Israelis have Always Oppressed Christians In East Asia. Pochter: Deceived by his teachers. A/c: Turn it off in DC. I wouldn't go so far as to disable it in cars...but, what a great idea! After all, why should Africans have the benefits of modern society? Never mind the school snacks, mind the waste of food put on the plates of kids who won't eat it--because the Gummint knows best. "Don't know about the Deep Web, but I read that porn sites are being put into 'ignore' status on search engines, or being summarily dropped by hosting sites."
The ultimate act of futility. You can't keep internet porn down. Zip it up, stick it in a closet, hide it from view, all they want. It takes but the tiniest stimulation of the most innocuous nature to cause it to rise again, raring to go. And it will be welcomed into places not open to the "good" internet. Soon on coed chests everywhere:
I went to college and now all I can afford is this lousy t-shirt QUOTE: Prochter ...was a person who didn't see the world as separate nations, but a collection of vibrant cultures. I'm going to speculate that there were Jews in Europe who thought this same way back in the 1920s. But that view kind of died out during the '30s and early '40s. Re: WH touts Kenyan National ID Cards
I'd like to see Citizen Obama's "real" Kenyan ID card, or has he managed to have that record sealed, too? How many birth certificates and passports does that man have, anyway? It seems clear now that the Progressive utopia is a police state. Putting a kid in prison for a nasty comment, for chrissakes! Every adult associated with that trial ought to have to explain themselves publicly, so we can decide if they have right on their side or ought to be shunned and shamed.
And how about this shameful little story of terrible policing, up at my daughter's own much-loved Dartmouth: http://mobile.vnews.com/search/7198224-108/jim-kenyon-hanover-police-play-nsa-on-underage-drinking The lawsuits are going to be coming fast and thick. A good thing too. On #3 do you know what the deep web is? Yep and got several different search engines for it and at least one good instruction wiki on accessing it.
Try looking in complete planet.com and Bright planet, deepnet explorer and search for "How To Access THE HIDDEN WIKI (Deep web, secret Internet)"
