Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Most on the pro-abortion side already know that fetuses can feel pain and pleasure ... they just don't care. From the althouse blog
Agreed. As any woman who is pregnant and wants to be and they will tell you they are carrying a baby. In fact in some states, death of a pregnant woman counts as two deaths. It all boils down to what the "mother" wants to call it. No there's a moral principle for you!
Seems to me they have that problem with that guy who held those three girls for years. They want to charge him with the murder of one's fetus but may have a problem since it is legal for doctors to willfully kill viable fetuses.
Now that personhood revolves around someone's desire or opinion, they may be able to get him if the girl says she wanted the baby.
In a sane society, killing is killing. The fetus or baby is not part of the woman's body, it is being nurtured by it. That nurturing should be held in some esteem - especially since it is so easy to make sure that there are no unwanted babies (fetuses). How far we've fallen and how quickly!!! "Never talk to the F.B.I."
So official F.B.I. policy is "we don't want to know the truth if we don't have the opportunity to act as intermediaries between the witness' statement and what goes on the record"? Great. I never defended many Federal criminal charges & only interacted rarely with F.B.I. agents, but I've seen something similar to technique Silvergate describes in state investigations. But I never had any law enforcement investigator actually walk away from an interview because I insisted on recording it. They always asked for a copy of the recording, and I always gave it to them. More often than not the investigators wanted to record it anyway and brought their own gadgets. In the context of the kind of interview Silvergate describes - where the witness hasn't been charged with a crime, maybe isn't suspected of any criminal activity, but is being interviewed as part of a criminal investigation of other persons - there's no good reason why you wouldn't allow the witness statement to be recorded. The point of the investigation is to gather evidence; whatever it is. If what Silvergate states about official F.B.I. policy is correct - that in the context of an investigation they won't record a witness statement and would rather forgo the interview than do so - that policy not only makes the F.B.I. look like weasels, it would encourage them to be weasels. Once booked an appointment with the FBI. When I arrived the US Attorney (Clinton appointee) was there--she/it took charge of the meeting immediately and the way too young FBI agent sat in the corner in fear for his career. The US Attorney told me to go home and get over it. What she did not tell me was her relationship to the people from whom I was seeking protection. In my experience the FBI is not what it used to be. But then again, neither is our legal system.
If obesity is a disease, then it is also a disability. So where to airlines get on on discriminating against disabled people? Where does fashion magazines get off on not providing reasonable accommodation to overweight models, i.e., photoshop?
They want obesity as a disease so they can justify control, but obese people should use their beliefs against them. Kierkegaard always seemed absurd and not just a little girly.
His take on God should leave him in good stead with muhammadans and other atheists. I appreciate conversations with FBI and DIA etc. for their lying, entrapping transparency.
Ain't more fun than to watch'em fume. What is it that takes yankees so long acknowledging the obvious.
Fearing the fascists is not healthyit's result is not unlike gluttony's disease. if yall don't buck up yall surrender and that is expensive. Me thinks, anchor Melville panders for the murderers of children both the mothers and their abortionists.
Strange, he even looks like a pimp. Obummer's Berlin speech is sooooo 2008. Perhaps climate is all he could come up with ad lib given his teleprompter issues. Apparently the buzz is gone as only a few thousand bothered to show up. Now all's left is three years of that tiresome droning.
Based on an audio snippet I heard, guess he doesn't realize that the German white audience isn't going to get the black style speech inflection he used. Why do I think Climate Change won't be global threat when the calls and letters about higher utility bills start coming in?
Climate of fear? Only if you let it. The thing neighborhood snoops hate is when they are ignored and people carry on. Though a bit of data wrenching is always amusing to do. Pretty please diplomacy, all you have left when you forget the other half of the TR quote. We need to get Bowe Bergdahl back, resolve any MIA issues and of course, the joint memorandum that'll read "Y'all won, can we go home now?" RE: Obama in Germany. Gads that was pitiful! A little bit of the best of Ike, a little bit of the best of Reagan and a little bit of the best of Kennedy. HOLY S#$% when, oh when, will he be able to come up with his own words? Write his own ideas? PBS News reported that there were so few people there for the same reason as the bullet proof glass--they were afraid of some evil doers, so they only allowed folks by "special invitation". Kinda like they have been doing with those famous "town hall meetings" they've been having! You only get to come to the party if you have worked tirelessly for them and for free, or if you are just too damn blind and ignorant to understand the problem!!
Post-60s discussions of boys in school avoid the most obvious solution - one that is still used successfully in my Orthodox Jewish community: sex-segregated education.
Oooops - there's that word "segregated"!!! But it works. In the typical Orthodox Jewish school, classrooms of boys are taught by largely male teachers - in other words, men who know what it's like to be a boy.... and what is needed to become a man.... and represent an admired model of male scholarship. I don't remember "sit down and shut up" being imposed - except for impotent attempts by some public school teachers brought in to teach secular subjects. One common fixture from middle-school on is the "shtender" - a lectern-like piece of furniture that lets a person study standing up. Rabbinical seminaries are well-stocked with them. Jewish studies start the day with a 2-3 hour session of preparing the daily Talmud portion in non-frontal, one-on-one buddy learning - in a large study hall that is buzzing with noise and action. The same technique of self-directed learning is used for some secular subjects. Although female teachers may teach some of the secular subjects, the "home room" teacher is a Jewish scholar who starts the day with Talmud or other Jewish studies. Often the school purposely introduces other teachers for Bible and Jewish History - so that a boy can find a mentor. With these techniques - supplemented by modern knowledge of dyslexia and other disabilities - almost all the boys in the community successfully negotiate a double program of Judaic and secular studies, with school days that can stretch from 8 AM to 6 PM. |
