Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

QUOTE: Christopher Monckton: No significant warming for 17 years 4 months http://wattsupwiththat.files.wordpress.com/2013/06/clip_image0022.jpg The graph they provided shows a temperature rise of 0.89°C per century with nearly 95% certainty over the period.
Wasn't the original estimate in the 3 - 4 deg. C/century?
We were addressing Monckton's claim. There is a nearly 95% probability that the temperature has increased over the period in question. If we extend that period a few more years into the past, then the probability is even higher, which is expected of a trend accompanied by shorter term fluctuations.
Temperatures are not projected to monotonically increase. In particular, solar activity has been slightly reduced, we've had double-dip La Niñas, and human aerosols have increased.

Again, what was the original prediction? Was it 3 - 4 deg. C or was it even higher?

We assume, then, that you grant the point.
To answer your question, 2-5°C per doubling of CO2.

In other words, wrong. In other words, whatever confidence you had in your understanding of the greenhouse mechanism was misplaced. Why would we be interested in your new projections, when they don't know what was wrong with your old ones?

Texan99: In other words, wrong.
Not at all. Climate scientists don't project a monotonic increase.

So when will we see this 2 - 5 deg. C/century warming?
We have been regaled with predictions of doom for years. Katrina was supposed to be the new normal for hurricanes. The number of Polar Bears was supposed to be dwindling. Those and dozens of other dire predictions have stubbornly fail to materialize. These weren't supposed to happen eventually, they were supposed to be happening now. Things are so dire for warmists that Michael Mann had to try to find a way to "hide the decline". Well, he can't. Nothing's lived up to his or other warmist's predictions. If this were truly "settled science" as Al Gore likes to say, then we wouldn't have seventeen years like we've had. So as Texan99 says, "wrong".

mudbug: So when will we see this 2 - 5 deg. C/century warming?
Per doubling. The amount of anthropogenic warming will depend on human activities. The physics are fairly straightforward, and the heat has to go somewhere. Most of the current warming is occurring in the oceans. mudbug: We have been regaled with predictions of doom for years. Doom is probably overstated. Disruption is more apt.

The whole thing is overstated.

Anyone who has actually read the Berenstein Bears knows that they are progressive enough to warrant being called the Bolshevik Bears.
Significant warming; hell ain't half full yet but warming is imminent, except maybe in Connecticut.
Most people think...
How yall come to that suggests a lot of cranial exercize goin' on behind the scenes. Meself can't develope such grandiose notion but thinks it ain't nothin new and the bleatin' from yall yankees is great entertainin'. Yall set the machine in motion when yall rallied to Axeman Abe and rejoiced when he violated the Constitution. Move along folks. Ain't nothin' new here to see but same old bleatin' sheep. Hey Buddy--can't get those folks at that agency to respond. Contacted them through their website contact form and haven't heard back--got any suggestions? You might give them a nudge and tell them to look for 217 in the "from" email.

That's their story, and they're sticking to it. And sticking it to us. Detroit: The Blue Model kills its hosts. "Not Fair", he says. Never thought "turn about is fair play" would apply to him. Bltzxrfk@!#$&^%%! Free haircuts: Why should bums and the homeless look good? Bad for their image. If the Israelis would act as they have been accused of acting, the muzzies would be more respectful. Jews everywhere should think about doing the same. I've read those books to kids. The Bears--Stan is either a flaming liberal or deeply in debt to his wife, seems to me. Franklin I don't remember any of the stories. Arnold seemed OK to me. But yes, there is a distinct lack of African, South American, Native American, Asian, East Asian, and Pacific Islander bears, turtles, and aardvarks in those stories. Bummer! Regards to Detroit...actually it is more the Black model that killed Detroit. The Blue methods just acted to seal the deal.
Hillary's professed ignorance is of long-standing: the billing records from the Rose law firm went missing from a table in the WH residence where they were last seen? Fancy that, and she knew absolutely nothing about that, cross her heart, hope to die.
