We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
What could go wrong? And what are we doing in a Syrian civil and religious war anyway? Do we have a dog in that fight? Those are my tax dollars (more accurately, dollars borrowed from China in my name. Our Chinese credit card).
Yes, in recent times presidents have done this TWICE before with bad consequences in both cases: Bush in Iraq and Obama in Libya. Both times, the US acted to remove a strongman and the result was worse chaos than before. Obama's Libya adventure, in particular, was the height of hypocrisy since it came after years of the Leftists in this country hysterically criticizing Bush for getting us involved in Iraq.
Many people have been urging the US to intervene in Syria in the midst of the ongoing religious war between the Sunnis and Alawite Shi'ites, some of them offering pretty decent arguments (e.g., David P. Goldman, aka Spengler). However, I cannot see how any involvement by the US in a geopolitical proxy war in Syria would turn out well for us. If one of the problems in Syria is the mischief being created there by Iran, then IMO the better course of action for Obama would be to deal directly with Iran's sponsorship of world terrorism. Indeed, one might even suspect the devious Iranians of setting a trap for us in Syria, hoping to distract us for awhile to give them time to complete their nuclear development program. If you think about it, that's a strategy that's right out of Obama's own campaign playbook.
So we support the same group who we've declared war on, we are at war with Iran yet through our actions hand over Iraq to Iran on a silver platter.
If we're going to be this stupid, than might as well bring our boys home and just hunker down because it seems everything we do at great cost only serves to strengthen our enemies and weaken our supposed allies and our position.
Perhaps our Ambassador to Syria should ask the Ambassador to Libya; How arming rebels over in his neck of the woods worked out and at this point what difference does it make?.... Nah...lets just ignore history, recent and otherwise.
