We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I hate modern art by comparison with Fragonard, Reynolds, Constable, Turner, Boucher, de Hooch, Landseer, etc. Of course, they were the modern art of their day...Looking at animals often makes for better art than girls, and no, I am not being perverse...But have you seen the "Newton" in front of the British Library?! What a monstrosity. A nice life-sized depiction of a bewigged gentlement under a tree might have brought pleasure and inspiration to millions, but instead several tons of bronze that looks like nothing so much as a meatball with a compass protruding...
Anyway, the picture of the Artist's Wife doomed to the flu, higher up in the blog, was pretty cool. Matisse is about as far away from representational as you can get without losing me. We retrievers are sensible Brits. You can only love what you can recognize, and modern art doesn't smell of anything but Yank greenbacks for its promoters
