We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Re the criminal investigations he launches on every scandal, the immediate effect is that no one in the executive branch nor any committeemen on the congressional privy councils has to answer any questions durinbg the 'active criminal investigation'.
The NSA has been collecting data and routing phone and internet traffic through their computers for years and yes even before the Bush administration. Most every country is doing this as well to some extent. Most companies are doing it; Google, bing, Sears, Verizon etc. Do you really think no one at Verizon looks at your phone records? Sure it is wrong/illegal but it is inevitable. I assume some restrictionsa will come from this new awareness but in my opinion we would all be wise to believe all our emails and computer keystrokes and phone meta-data is beiong looked at somewhere by someone. If the NSA doesn't do it I'm sure China does and will continue to. Did you really think your internet was safe?
Dear MF'ers: I know today is a lovely Saturday and that you have gardens to tend, boats to launch, etc., etc. But, when you have a quiet moment to search your mind and the internet would you please search for a professional consulting group that does branding, marketing, site building for professionals? We desperately need that kind of professional/technical help. I know Dr. Mercury can build a beautiful site, but we need more.
Dallas-based, as hip as left/right coast but happily flyover in corporate culture. Dallas creatives can be slick or hick, whichever client wants/needs, they're fluent in both idioms. Full disclosure, i have a connection, but arm's length and non-financial.
Funny how all these scandals break AFTER last November's presidential election instead of BEFORE it. With today's revelations, you now have to wonder whether crucial voter information gathered by the NSA was being fed to the DNC to help it campaign in the battleground states that Obama needed to win re-election. Trust this WH? No way. Believe this WH? Not for a minute.
[A]s a U.S. senator from Illinois in 2007, Barack Obama blasted President George W. Bush for sweeping surveillance of Americans in the name of battling terrorism — just the sort of justification that Obama officials were making Thursday.
Then, Obama called it "a false choice between the liberties we cherish and the security we demand."
"I will provide our intelligence and law enforcement agencies with the tools they need to track and take out the terrorists without undermining our Constitution and our freedom," he said in a speech then. "No more national security letters to spy on citizens who are not suspected of a crime. No more tracking citizens who do nothing more than protest a misguided war. No more ignoring the law when it is inconvenient. That is not who we are. And it is not what is necessary to defeat the terrorists."
AP, they do use free-lancers as needed --IOW, if you and Merc have a deal and you retain the agency for more than a website build, you could keep your deal w/ Merc, i'm sure. They could work with your team, IOW.
