Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Dissenters are the enemies of progress. When the government is the repository of all virtue, those who resist its expansion become villains. When the government is the primary agency of compassion, it can easily portray its critics as heartless. To those who depend on the State for their livelihood, dissenters who speak of economic liberty and diminished government are the enemy. If you won’t give politicians the resources and authority they need to “help” someone, then you must “hate” whoever they were trying to help. Socialist redistribution is among the most divisive political systems ever created, because the recipients must be made to see themselves entitled to what is given, while their class enemies can be allowed no moral claim to what is taken.

I believe it was Kristol who said (I freely paraphrase) that Nixon was a dirt bag, but he would never sick the IRS on groups who claimed to be patriots or support the Constitution. He actually took responsibility for his policies (many of them terribly flawed) rather than "leading from behind". He gave up his first chance at being president because he thought that contesting a close election (that he likely actually won) would have been destructive to the nation.
In short, Nixon was a flawed president (don't you just love it when the press always describes successful Republican presidents as "flawed" as though they and their Demoncrat presidents are not), but was a president. Obummer could only dream being that engaged - but he won't. He got other things in mind. "People With Financial Assets Are All Doomed"
We are all doomed. You are sitting in a catbird seat to observe what may be the biggest historical event in modern history. It will affect everyone, rich and poor and all across the globe. An economic collapse of biblical proportions. The government is in the last throes of desparate measures to shore up the economy and nothing has worked. It has masked the long economic slide but has done nothing to reverse it or prevent it. In fact the massive borrowing and printing of money has made the inevitable crash worse. Why do you think DHS needed 2 billion rounds of ammuntion? Why has every cabinet level department created it's own police force? They are not doing it to protect the citizens and maintain order. They know what is coming and their hope is they can protect themselves and government from the anger of the people. What will the 50,000,000 food stam recipients do when the free stuff ends? What will the 100,000,000 people do when their benefits stop coming? Keynes was a Marxist socialist who believed his policies would create a socialist nirvana. FDR attempted to realize Keynes dream and it is just pure chance that it did not destroy us. WW II ended the Keynesian nightmare. FDR had connections and collaborations with communists spies and agents who worked in his administration to destroy the U.S. It is ironic but not coincidence that Obama also has connections and collaborations with communists. The goal and intent is to destroy the U.S. The storm is coming, are you paying attention or are you whistling past the graveyard. This will be the massive rainwrapped tornado of the economic world; a massive F5 economic tornado that will destroy everything. And when they've dug and burned, laid bare the ground, and drive off into the setting sun, capitalism will just smile and wave, sitting there on that sack of seeds.
LOL --it's true --i think it was somebody here at MF some time back pointed out that ''capitalism'' is a marxist term, that before that it was simply known as ''freedom''.
Hah! I saw the text 'Is time a real thing' and guessed it would be Lee "my physics is right because it is politically correct" Smolin, crackpot extraordinaire. Bingo. The NYRB gets suckered.
LOL!! Great minds think alike. I said the exact same thing when I saw the blurb - "Must be Lee "Damn the math - I'm right because I'm me" Smolin".
Guys is a moron. Not that there is anything wrong with that. Man-bags: Well, sometimes we need more stuff handy than we have pockets. So--backpacks, vests, safari jackets w/ lotsa pockets (where else can I carry my claymore, flamberge, halberd, grenades, kukhri, etc., without being...obvious?) Messenger bag? Sure. Gotta keep the hands free to get at one's weaponry.
"Why is it that liberals feel no qualms about being rude? " Because they KNOW they are better than us, and are authoritarians--what we think is obviously wrong and not to be tolerated. Minor: His head wasn't big enough to contain a sense of proportion. Faber says he's keeping gold in Asia. Riiiiiiiiight. WTSHTF, he's sure he will have no trouble getting his gold. Uh huh. Ed Markey: Why would ANY right-thinking American oppose a tax increase? Ottoman Empire: The Catholic/Protestant divide has nothing (absolutely nothing!) on the Sunni/Shi'ite divide. Shortage of TP and diapers; well, OK, shortages of commonly used items are signs the economy has failed because of government. (I remember similar stories out of Russia.) Consumer not OK: Who's ready for the Fifth (FIFTH!) annual tour of the Summer Of Recovery? Yayus! Here I is! Clinton's $500K: What is it with Jews and Dems? I always heard Jews were smart. My in-laws seem to be. Detroit: Makes Canadians sad. Educrats: Insanity walking. Are you in one of these groups? If you scroll to the bottom it is interesting to note in the footnotes on the right side there is a definition of the difference between denial and revision. More importantly however is the many, many faith based groups that are on this list. I wonder how their taxes are doing?

Time will beat you over the head and turn you every which way until you learn to obey it.
You got that right.
A band with a good drummer and mediocre everything else can work, an otherwise good band with a lousy drummer is unbearable. Why are liberals so rude to the right?
The article has a number of face-to-face examples of liberal rudeness. There are a lot of comments to the article which say that conservatives are just as rude- but the only examples I have read were of online statements from conservatives, not of face-to-face statements from conservatives. I have encountered some face-to-face examples of liberal rudeness, dealing with the use of "teabagger." Yes, it is rude to label your political opponents as "testicle-lickers." When I have quietly pointed out that teabagger means "testicle licker," libs cease and desist. But you have to call them on it. Why are libs rude to wingnuts? Because libs view wingnuts as evil, and thus as someone who to whom any "good" person wouldn't give the time of day. Meself have had several all leather man-bags.
They wear not so well and some rip and tear and run away. You're supposed to slay the animal and remove the hide, before you use it as a carry-all. Jeez, no wonder they run away.
re "time", technically, that is, according to the three dimensions of the universe, it doesn't exist, in the terms of the word ''exist''. Where you are in time is always ''now'', and when you posit a point in the past or future, you're thinking ''about'' that point, it is ''once removed'', and the word for it is ''then'' --the antonym of 'now'. If you time-travelled to be ''at'' that point, it would 'then' be ''now''. |
