We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
The French and Indian Wars, on TV tonite: Irish Pennants. Yes, they were a very important (to the future USA) aspect of the war between the Brits and the French. But not as historically important as the later series of Indian Wars in which the Indians allied themselves with the Brits to prevent migration into the Indian Lands, and the 19th century Indian Wars when land-hungry American homesteaders succeeded in conquering the country.
Despite having lots of Indian and French ancestors, I have never been able to like the Frogs, and still tend to think the only good Indian is a....So nauseated by the PC romanticizing of the Native American (romantic savage updated). Not to mention casinos and fetal alcohol syndrome....
If you want to thrill history, watch the Last of the Mohicans. Thrills, chills, romance, heroism, self-sacrifice, treachery, dogged bravery, class warfare, etc. Plus the hero is way cute and soundtrack not bad. The character I could always relate to was the Brit officer who sacrifices himself to save the girl (who rejected him) from the ravening savages. Now that's love! They cook him. She escapes. Do you love anyone that much? Kids don't count--we all love our kids that much.
