Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Nearly 8 percent of Vienna is Muslim. The Muslim population of Austria doubled in two decades. It will take less time for it to double again. Half of the Muslims in Austria are under 25; twice the number for the general population.Succeeding now where they failed in 1683. Trackbacks

Locavorism: He continues in an Orwellian manner: “People will have to relearn what it means to eat according to the seasons.”
The strange thing is, I agree with this sentiment to a certain extent. The problem is that our sources of food are no longer "local", but global. That's how we get apples in the winter, strawberries in February, lettuce all year round, etc. Its just not possible in today's integrated world. Besides, local farmers can't possibly keep up with demand anyway so the whole is silly. We do purchase local groceries whenever we can and always have - but it is seasonal and I do like having radishes all year 'round. 8th grader suspended, arrested for wearing NRA shirt The reason the school and DA have gone radio silent is that they realize that they've made complete jackasses of themselves by arresting a 13 year old for wearing a T-shirt. I can understand that maybe the shirt may have been inappropriate given the recent climate and that maybe it wasn't the smartest thing to do, but criminal charges? Really? To paraphrase Bugs Bunny: "What a bunch of maroons..." "Otherizing" terrorists I'm always fascinated by intellectuals, both right and left, and the way they can remove themselves from any personal agenda and think grand thoughts about anything and everything. Yeah - right. Mass. police: Bomb suspects didn't have gun permit Hush your mouth - that does not fit within liberal philosophy about weapons so that can't be true. Austria's Muslims - this is happening all over Western Civilization. It's not really new except maybe in the surge. But history has shown that the best way to deal with immigrants is through assimilation.
Austria, Britain, well everywhere, should establish centers of learning throughout the land. Places where native and immigrant alike could learn about Western Civilization, democracy, science, literature, etc. They could make attendance mandatory up to a certain age. The most studious could then apply for tuition at places of higher learning where they would read and discuss great books. It shouldn't matter that we tried this and was successful with earlier generations but now those places have fallen into scholarly disrepair and become intellectual blight. We can raze the old and rise up a new learning center that will revitalize the mental landscape. You're assuming that radical Muslims actually want to learn about western civilization. I don't see any evidence to support that view.
I'm assuming we can't know unless we make the knowledge available to them. We can't expect them to learn it if our teachers and professors don't know it and won't bother to learn it.
We can't ever hope they will embrace the forces that made the modern world if our so-called "elite" who matriculated at our most famous universities are constantly denigrating those very attributes that created the society they benefit from but loathe. Re: 8th grader suspended
QUOTE: The family plans to work with their attorney to get the criminal charges dismissed and off the boy’s record and then may pursue a civil suit against the school if appropriate. Of course, it would be nice if the school could at least say something to let the parents know what’s going on rather than going in to radio silence. they might find an NRA-paid lawyer and refuse dismissal, let the government humiliate itself trying to persecute prosecute a kid for wearing a shirt. in california, 20 years ago during the "satanism in skools" witch hunt, a teacher had been accused of abuse of some kind. page one news. the government backed down and offered to dismiss because the charge was total BS. that would have been page 20 news and the guy's reputation destroyed even with the dismissal. the guy and his attorney refused the offer and the resulting PR disaster was again, page one news. The law did not prevent these evil scum from finding guns? Color me shocked. But in the twisted, Alice-through-the-looking glass world of lefty politics this will be used as justification for more gun control legislation, not less.
We live in a weird, non-sensical world, governed by irrational ideological people who are convinced of their moral superiority. "Otherizing" terrorists
Seems to me the libs do a pretty good job of "otherizing" wingnuts. Calling wingnuts "teabaggers [testicle lickers] is a good example. Apparently even the Danes get tired of paying the Dane-geld?
FWIW:
"Do women really need to wear a bra? A newly released 30-year study shows that no, we don't. French researchers spent 15 years studying the breasts of more 330 French women, and concluded that wearing a bra does not prevent sagging or ease back pain as commonly thought. In fact, in the study the supporting muscles of women who went au naturel had actually strengthened and the nipples were measurably higher." http://www.myfoxny.com/story/21949228/study-younger-women-dont-need-to-wear-bra Works for me. :-) So much for all the effort devoted to learning how to gracefully undo all the various bra hook configurations. Guess I'll have to develop another expertise.
Ah the mammaries. Locavorism--THEY know what is good/best for us, no matter what.
Fracking produces ammonia? Be damned! NRA shirt: DANG! WV ain't "Almost Heaven" no more. Steve Sailer: He's a caution! Stupid libs (but that's why they are both). Re: gun permit
I want -- no I demand to know who gave them the bomb permit. if they didn't have that bomb permit, not of this would have happened. David Remnick, that morally confused individual, was recently selected as Class Day (graduation) speaker at Princeton.
Shame on you Princeton. [i]8th grader suspended, arrested for wearing NRA shirt[i]
Seems the charge was for something like creating a disturbance in public. Which probably should mean the teacher or administrator who first confronted him ought to be the one charged. Alas, courts have long ruled that students - even a forty-five-year-old going for a third PhD - are not citizens with the rights delineated in the first ten Amendments to the US Constitution, at least not on-campus. “The point is that it’s important to say, ‘that is not us,” Dyson agreed. “We want to demonize the other.
I don't have to demonize people who blow up innocents, they demonize themselves. It really is impossible to be too stupid to be a Progressive mouthpiece, isn't it? |
