Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

"Gun control bill in peril"
Remember, remember, 1994's November. 2014's is shaping up that way... Obama challenges congress to listen to the will of the American people. They are, he's not. LOL
Unsubstantiated accusations against my son by a former girlfriend landed him before a nightmarish college tribunal.
Ye reap what ye sow. I'm always amused by these morons who think in grand terms of equality and "rights", but when they bump up against their own idiocies they are appalled to find that they've created a Frankenstein and there is no way to burn down the barn to rid themselves of it. I saw an article about Seth McFarlane's apparent dismay at somebody taking one of his "Family Guy" episodes and doing some creative editing to make it look like "Family Guy" predicted the bombing. Well, you know Seth, if you hadn't made the episode in the first place with your trademark "no rules for me" approach to entertainment, then maybe, just maybe, it wouldn't have happened. Idiot. "Californians: Prepare For A 50% Hike In Pension Costs" I know! Awful, isn't it? But again you have shown the courage and fortitude to expose the sordid underbelly of one of our two great sister states, CA and CT. Connecticut study says state employee pension fund will be broke by 2019 Connecticut pension fund falling far short of ability to pay retirees Living In Connecticut To Get More Expensive - Gov. Malloy Proposes Stiff Tax Hikes Across The Board Yes, it's just awful that our two great sister states can't be more perfect. Despite both of them starting with the letter 'C' and being composed of 10 to 11 letters, a boast no other state can make, it appears that we'll just have to stick by them, for better or for worse. Long live CT and CA! Sister states forever! Not only does Gaia make her hot from the looks of her eyes she's been in the catnip. And if you click through to the article you see in the end, she's a dirty, dirty girl. Next up, the shower scene.
Um....Who is Emma Watson and why should I care?
Seriously... She's the lead girl in the Harry Potter series, I've never actually watched a single movie, so people know her or knew her as a cute 12 year old. Now she's barely old enough to drink and take her clothes off.
As phil g said, she's the girl from Harry Potter. Obviously, this is her attempt to break the child star role.
Apparently, as I see tidbits in the Daily Mail, she's not given into the Hollywood raunch so perhaps she has a chance. I was trying to think of some Hermione like expression to describe the picture of Emma Watson. Well, Ann Althouse has a word/phrase of the day that fits both aurally and even as defined

little barry wanted another disaster for his grabbing bill, but he got the wrong kind. now all he can do is demand to control ball bearings and pressure cookers. They should work on bomb controls. That's something we all could get behind. Wait, what? Law abiding citizens don't make bombs? Criminals will ignore the laws? Perhaps we should outlaw criminals?
The last 15 yearsd of the GDR, the most common crime in terms of prosecutions and punishment was ''failing to report knowledge of a crime''.
If a kid bought a couple onions on the black market, and he told his mom as he gave 'em to her for the soup, mom had to report sonny boy or be liable for a prison sentence. And the onion seller was a good chance to be an informer. So, folks just quit talking to each other. "More Columbia and Cornell co-eds seeking “Sugar Daddies”"
And oddly, they will still think free market capitalism is bad. Even as they profit from it while facing oppressive regulation of their right to rent out access to their own, very private, property. In the business world, men have learned it's not a good idea to date a woman who works in the same office. College students are learning the same lesson, that they should be very careful about dating their classmates. With apologies to the Princeton mother who recently advised Princeton co-eds to look for a husband among their classmates, I'd advise college men to date students at a school other than their own. It's a lot safer that way. Horror stories like the one recounted by attorney Judith Grossman in the WSJ may not be common, but is it worth taking the chance of being among the 1% who do get falsely accused by an ex-girl friend? Guys, take heed: the system of punishment for your transgressions is not fair and was purposely designed not to be fair. If you can't date outside your school, then wait until after you graduate. You'll then be able to date women at any school you choose without the fear of having the campus Title IX tyrants gunning for you.
Friend of mine's wife posted to Facebook not long ago, congratulating President Obama for signing the Violence Against Women Act. I posted no comment*, but of the many things that came to mind was to suggest that any bit of legislation that comes with a high-minded self-congratulatory name** ought to be treated with suspicion and hostility until subjected to strict and unsparing review. It's reckless to take such legislation at face value.
