We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
The recent restoration of the dioramas is stunning. Not only were the background paintings restored, but the animals were redone (shampoos and better abs!) giving them a much more lifelike and dynamic appearance.
I spent a lot of time as child in "The Museum", as we called it. (Any other museum had a name, such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, or the Guggenheim Museum, etc. But the AMNH was just "The Museum.")
Wonderful institution, and spending time there as a child was partly responsible for my becoming a scientist.
P.S. Also I should mention the Hayden Planetarium (again, "The Planetarium") on the same site, now the Rose Center. Another childhood influence.
