We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
well, thankfully, Dame Maggie has not lately deemed it necessary to "drop kit".....I recall an interview with Helen Merrin when she was well past prime and she said she would still consider it. Though I don't have TV and have not seen the PBS serial, I'd guess it is another UP/Downstairs knockoff without the Bertie Wooster humor.
Consider me "to some"... and of a "certain age" both. "rubbish" is rather harsh for Merrin, I think, she has done some fine work over the years, not everything, but enough.
I'll watch anything with Helen Mirren in it, and I can't get enough of Maggie Smith, either. I was amused to hear that she hadn't really been famous until Downton Abbey. I've been enjoying her at least since "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie." She makes every movie she's in.
