Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

QUOTE: Rich Lowry: Meet the new climate deniers A recent study in Nature Geoscience shows that the 1990s were anomalously warm, but that the overall trend is consistent with model forecasts. See Allen et al, Test of a decadal climate forecast, Nature Geoscience 2013. You are rationalizing. Let's assume what you say is true and the AGW is still on track and the 90's simply had a warmer blip (which the warmies took advatage of I migfht add to bouy up their theory). The point you are ignoring and the elephant in the room is that for the last 15 years the dreaded poisonous gas CO2 has continued it's meteoric rise and the temperature did not follow. This goes against everything the warmies have said. This is huge! It blows away the CO2 link to the AGW theory. Without the CO2 as the cause then burning fossil fuel cannot logically be linked to global warming ( I say cannot logically be linked because I recognize logic has no place in the AGW community). Without fossil fuel being the cause of global warming then there is no longer a viable AGW theory; something else, something not related to human action must be causing this tiny increase in global temperatures.
But no worries. There is good news. The increased CO2 is causing increased plant growth even greening former arid areas and saving the Amazon not to mention providing more food for the growing population. And the slightly warmer climate is a boon to mankind, improving living conditions, improving health and in general beneficial to all peoples. Polar bears are thriving in spite of the attempts by the crazy left to deny it. Let's not forget that the little ice age caused the dark ages and allowed the great plagues to decimate the human populations. This is so much better then encroaching glaciers and summers without harvests, don'tcha think??? GoneWithTheWind: You are rationalizing.
That would be the paper published in Nature Geoscience. GoneWithTheWind: The point you are ignoring and the elephant in the room is that for the last 15 years the dreaded poisonous gas CO2 has continued it's meteoric rise and the temperature did not follow. You either didn't read the paper, or didn't understand it. http://www.skepticalscience.com/graphics/SkepticsvRealists_500.gif You are now embarassing yourself. Remember that CO2 is SOOO powerful that it wamred the entire planet and doomed civilization forever. It is not just the prime factor in AGW it is the ONLY factor. The all powerful CO2. But wait! But wait! for the last 15 years CO2 has continued it's inexorable rise year after year and the rise in temperature stopped dead in it's tracks!!! How can that be; oh the horror, the humanity. CO2 has lost it's power. But did it ever have the power. Where those hundreds of sceintists who claime the increase in CO2 was the result of warming and not the cause? Does CO2 really have very little effect on climate DUH!, no warming the last 15 years, DUH! Was it all really about those pesky Milankovitch cycles after all and not about fossil fuel? Was the hoopla all about grants and funding for scientists and taxes and power for politicians? DUH!
GoneWithTheWind: Remember that CO2 is SOOO powerful that it wamred the entire planet and doomed civilization forever.
CO2 will not doom civilization forever. People will change and adapt, including learning to reduce their emissions. GoneWithTheWind: It is not just the prime factor in AGW it is the ONLY factor. That is incorrect. Greenhouse gases include water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and ozone. The rest of your comment ignores Allen et al.

More rationalization. You are so inept at deceit that I truely think you should get into some other carear. Either CO2 CAUSES global warming which is the AGW keystone or it does not. You cannot claim the meteoric rise in temperature during the 30's was the result of increased CO2 and then discard all the evidence when in the 60's and 70's global cooling is so obvious that famous scientists declared we were entering a ice age (conveniently that too was somehow caused by man).
AGW is a theory! There is zero evidence to support it, it is nothing more then a theory. It's hingepin is increasing CO2 causing increasing warming. Yet, the increase in CO2 is unabated and the warming has stopped COLD. Once again famous and not so famous scientists are predicting an ice age or at least global cooling and yet CO2 keeps increasing. The increasing CO2 is greening deserts and saving the Amazon. It is increasing crop yields just as population increases demand increased crop yields. There seems to be no downside to the increased CO2 and the tight relationship with global warming is broken. The AGW theory is still unproven. But the warmies continue to prevaricate and postulate and blame ever precipitate on humans. Why? Well, duh, for the money, for the power, for the increased tax revenue, for the children (oops that's the teachers unions, sorry). I have a theory. Not as popular as the AGW theory but it does have exactly as much evidence to support it. I think global warming is caused by the growth in the federal government. After all every year the size and cost of the federal government has increased just as the warming has. I have even charted this over the last hundred years and the chart contains that characteristic "hockey stick" appearance we all know and love. By george I think I have something here. The only way to save humanity is to fire 10% of the federal civilian workforce AND to further decrease the budget for each department by 10% (and reduce taxes by 10%) and to do this every year until the ice caps return. Lets hit the politicians with a hockey stick and see if we can fix this problem.

You just falsely claimed that climate scientists say that CO2 is "the ONLY factor". GoneWithTheWind: Yet, the increase in CO2 is unabated and the warming has stopped COLD. For years we have been told the Earth is melting like a popcycle, and that humanity will would soon be boiled alive in a rising sea. Well, today that lie stands exposed with evidence that any child can understand. More deflection and distraction. You know CO2 was blamed for AGW and the references to methane, nitrous oxide or ozone were foot notes. CO2 was the biggy but now that CO2 has let you down you conflate the eensey weensey amounts of other naturally occurring gasses as having been co-conspiritors in this AGW conspiracy. As for water vapor, DUH! That's what the deniers have been claiming all along that water vapor and not AGW is the biggest factor in this natural cyclical and very minor global warming.
By the way you are slipping you forgot to cite any references and "et al"s to booster your position. Don't forget that in the future it makes your reply's look professional and helps distract from the lack of proof.

It's not a deflection or a distraction. You made a false statement to prop up a strawman. You were called on it, and refuse to correct yourself. GoneWithTheWind: You know CO2 was blamed for AGW and the references to methane, nitrous oxide or ozone were foot notes. While CO2 is the primary driver of climate change, they are all important greenhouse gases. GoneWithTheWind: As for water vapor, DUH! That's what the deniers have been claiming all along that water vapor and not AGW is the biggest factor in this natural cyclical and very minor global warming. Huh? The basics of climate science are that CO2 warming is amplified by increased water vapor.

Actually, most any warming is amplified by increased water vapor.

wrong. again.
but thank you for illustrating the fallacy of incomplete evidence aka cherry picking. you do this so well. by the way, I was reading the March 31, Pleistocene edition of Climate 'n Stuff and it keeps talking about a Comin' Ice Age. any truth to that? wirraway: wrong. again.
If you think Allen et al. are incorrect, then you should make specific objections, not simply wave your hands. wirraway: by the way, I was reading the March 31, Pleistocene edition of Climate 'n Stuff and it keeps talking about a Comin' Ice Age. Never heard of it. QUOTE: Christianity, as a late writer has pointed out in words well chosen,* is the only system of socialism which commends it self as having a rational basis, and its founder the most practical teacher of it that the world has ever seen. " The aim of all socialism is the securing of equality in the social condition of mankind, and if equality is to be secured at all it will be secured only by changing the hearts of men, and never by setting to work, in the first instance, upon the conditions." But the present impulse of socialism is not Christian, but rather one willing to put an end to Christianity. And it is a system of machinery, like the kingdom of a tyrant, not of souls, like that of Christ. Now the Christian system did not rest on force at all. It was communistic, but not socialistic, as the word is properly used; for its very essence was the freedom of the individual will. It is wrong to think the Bible, which works by changing men's hearts, could be replaced by those hearts. I've given this post great thought, and my conclusion is that that cup of coffee is simply filled too high, almost assuring some spillage on the way to the first sip. Does Dunkin' Donuts think people drink coffee through a straw? But that's what a post like this is all about -- raising the tough questions.
"Meet the new climate deniers" QUOTE: The new climate deniers are the liberals who, despite their obsession with climate change, have managed to miss the biggest story in climate science, which is that there hasn’t been any global warming for about a decade and a half. (ahem) From my own modest piece on the issue: QUOTE: Framing The Debate The single biggest pit that our side falls into is the "It hasn't warmed in 10 years!" claim, which is identical to the "record-breaking" silliness. Who refers to years when dealing with climate on a global scale? Not to single it out, but a recent article on Hot Air was titled: "Surprise! No warming for last 11 years" In other words, if suddenly the earth actually does warm up over the next few decades, then man-made global warming is real? Framing the argument this way is a horrific error in logic, destined to lose, and yet you see it everywhere. Anthony Watts over at Watts Up does it, Tom Harris at Climate Science does it, the guy at Daily Bayonet does it, and now here's Ed Morrissey of Hot Air doing it. Regardless of what he then goes on to say in the article, he's now framed the debate that way. As long as the global temperature doesn't go up, then AGW is a hoax. As long as. As I hope I've shown, the only way to debate this issue is to quickly agree that the earth is warming in general, then bring up whether or not it's man-made, then point to the geological record. Anyone still arguing at that point isn't worth the time or trouble. They either have an agenda to fulfill or they're outright zealots, and either way they're not going to be shaken from their anointed path by mere words and graphs. On the other hand, one has to admit, articles like the one BD linked to are a barrel of fun. Problem is that their predictions are wrong.
But who really cares anyway? "When Men Forsake God, Tyranny Always Follows"
Very nice piece. It is a dangerous thing to strive for that shiny, secular, Star Trek utopia...it is a mirage, one that hides a much darker destiny. Yesterday I made a comment on Yahoo re: the US' Christian heritage, implying that it was responsible for many of the good things in the US. It received several "thumbs down". The pregnant man divorce link is to a post with a pretty scary comments section on this post. I guess some people are not very friendly to "the other".
The solution in law is simple: According to AZ law, there was an impediment to the original marriage, so they could petition for an annulment. But I think that their goal isn't dissolution of their legal union, and they want a divorce because then it would be a defacto AZ state recognition of their former marriage. Of course there might be property issues and child-custody issues at stake that would normally be resolved in a single divorce case but would require separate agreements, civil suits, and more family court. Re: Racism is a resource.
This makes too much sense. We must make sure it does not get nationwide exposure. --bingo --the expression of inferiority (or, less tendentiously, an 'inferiority complex') is self-evident --thus a universal constant that ain't (because it can't) goin' nowhere fast.
