Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Big-Project Binge Fueled Motor City’s Meltdown

When I hear free-spending national leaders call for more infrastructure investment, I think of Detroit’s absurd People Mover monorail gliding above empty streets. That’s unfair, I know. Yet the city’s epic tragedy, which entered a new stage last week when Mayor Dave Bing lost financial control, provides broader perspective on the potential consequences of mixing economic distress with bad policy making.

The monorail to nowhere paid off a lot of politicians and cronies. A lot of former detroit residents and Chicago ex-pats are enjoying early retirement thanks to all that money spilled around for that project and a few others. The Federal government knows this but no investigation and not perp walks. Money was paid, votes were cast, nothing more to say...

Agree, that likely, Young was the start. Twenty years in the office can't have been good for what needed to be done.
