Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Their new digs are way over on the west end of 42nd St. We admire their efforts to run an acting company with its own theater, given the competition with hundreds of Off-Broadway and Off-Off Broadway theaters in NYC, very few with their own acting companies. (Along with the Classic Stage Company, we support them with modest donations.) I am amazed by the number of fancy apartment towers that have emerged in that once-seedy area - "Hell's Kitchen" district, more or less. Used to be all street hookers and drug dealers, and now it's parents with kids in strollers with their dogs, even in the evening:
Over an early northern Italian dinner at the tiny, cozy Gallo Nero, Mrs. BD and I discussed whether the play - chock full of eternal quotes (eg "If all the year were playing holidays, To sport would be as tedious as to work" - is a coming of age play, or a comedy featuring Falstaff with some sword-fights and wars for tension. My theory is that Shakespeare was an entertainer, a screenwriter, who would do anything to sell tickets. Throw in some sword fights, family conflicts, a king and some nobles, some thieves, a jester, a tavern wench, some human emotions, and see what happens. Just happened to be a genius writer/thinker too. When he made enough money (and he made plenty), he just retired from theater. Despite the obnoxious Nanny Bloomberg, NYC sure seems to be thriving, clean, cheerful, safe, and busy. Just a wonder to me, always. So many good-looking people, too. If I were a little rich, I'd buy a brownstone there somewhere, rent out the top 2 floors, and keep the garden floor and the first floor as a pied a terre. That would be fun. We country and suburban folk need an escape once in a while, an escape to where the action is. Gee whiz, I really do love banging around Manhattan and I am fortunate to have a Mrs. who drags me in at least monthly, or more, to do interesting, stimulating things to prevent mental/cultural/spiritual decay. Around here, we have seen many older people retire by buying a 6-month + 1 day place in a low tax state (FL, NH, SC, etc) and a place in the city. I like to remain rooted in my community, but I think that sounds cool. By the way, Mrs. BD strongly recommends the series In Search of Shakespeare on Netflix. Enjoyable.

If Mrs. BD decrees, I must obey. Dropped ISOS into my NF stack and moved to position one.
The Windsors are actually the Hanoverians --Germans were a tad unpopular by 1917, so the name Windsor was taken from on of the estate castles. What's odd is that the Hanoverians came to power when the last Stuart, Queen Anne, died without direct heir in such a circumstance as to arguably activate an old agreement to bring in an Austrian elector to decide the issue --this was Sophia, who died just weeks before Anne, having left word to give the crown to her son George, who didn't even speak English. This was bitter for the Roman Catholics of GB as well as the world, as there were at least 50 RCs related to the Stuart dynasty who had a better claim than did the German cousin who became king. Cut to 185 or so, and who is writing his commie Bible in London but Karl Marx, supported by his Stuart-descended wife. Another Stuart wife was Princess Diana, direct descendant. Folks who follow these things --such as the bankers of City of London, saw an element in Charles and Diana something almost like Lancastrian Henry VII's marrying Elizabeth of York ASAP he had slain Richard III --whose bones just got dug up --at the battle of Bosworth, which closed out the Wars of the Roses between the Lancastrians (of the north, the party of government) and the Yorkists (of the south, the church party).
So Henry Tudor married a York, actually the sister of those two little boys murdered by uncle Richard III in the tower of London, and thereby ended both dynasties, York and Lancaster, in favor of deliberately marrying into the enemy --and allowing the grand resolution of all the murdering and warring to usher in the new House of Tudor, whose Henry VIII broke up the Catholic structure of England (a lot of wealth band income in those 'nationalized' monasteries) and founded up the Anglican/Episcopalian new Church of England. It was the last of the Tudors, Elizabeth I, who by her recognition of his talent, sponsored Shakespeare, and gave him the stage from whence he entered immortality. The queen of course died childless, and the succession laws pointed to the Catholic Stuarts so strongly that the power transfer went without much Protestant complaint. But the re-catholicization naturally proceeded, and over the next two Stuarts became so strong that William of Orange with his Stuart, the Protestant, wife, had enough claim to the throne that the Stuarts were deposed, the power players fleeing to the French Court, as William and Mary took the crown. The great wars between the Jacobins (not to be confused with the Jacobites, which was an entirely different movement you'll be surprised to hear), were the basically Stuart restorationists with French and Papal backing vs the Church of England and the commerce stronghold square mile know as the City of London --who could work with an Archbishop of Canterbury better than they could with the Pope. So the RC church over a couple centuries took several major slaps across the face from the English part of GB. But long/short, take a look at those players today --what's going on? Queen Elizabeth II was a few days ago hospitalized with a bug --but the world of all that crown intrigue did banner headline it for days. GB has made recent and profound, tho little publicized, rule-of-succession changes against primogeniture (the rule of the elder/eldest son, if there IS one, as automatically first in line). Prince William (with a popular young wife --a commoner --the couple with a baby girl in the works) is half Stuart and half Windsor/Hanoverian/Tudor. To the Jesuit war-fighters, trying to restore the Roman Church wherever the Anglican has trod, William is split between the strongest RC-men and the strongest anti-RC-men, between Whig vs Tory, Lancaster vs York, hereditary-rights vs nonesuch (wife and daughter's mother to be), Democrat vs GOP --and Tudor vs RCC. Somebody discovers the bones and digs up the last Angevin/Plantagenet/York dynastic direct link to William The Conqueror, who came over, y'know, from the accursed EU and defeated Harold the last Anglo-Saxon dynastic. Meanwhile the conclusion is drawing that the AGW dedication of Prince Charles have wrapped themselves in an unbreakable embrace, and are best left alone, all world eyes embarrassed and averted and pretending the heir apparent and his fairy Ariel of AGW have 'gone walkabout'. Meanwhile the conclusion is already drawn across the financial/political world that the 2008 crash was the handiwork of the 16 LIBOR banking houses mostly HQ'd in fact and de facto in the City of London (with the 20 year plan's worth of enabling unaccountable cash lubricant having been hauled in from global drug smuggling organizations --hauled in adjacent to the dark banks of China and the dark pools of trade Citibank/Rubin designed and Clinton signed --from as far away from London as possible, that is, HSBC, the Singapore/Hong-Kong bank vestigial of the Bank of England). This nexus owns or is owned by the Windsor/Hanover-Germanic/Tudor/Lancastrian/Tory/Democrat elite USA/ array --which is making that Stuart frame of mind start looking like the fresh clean sunshine not of any promised NWO but from a damn smart, diligent, stylish, tried-and-true recent world order --the force that built the great tolerant and humane side of the western persona --as the choice of a change of psychological landscape. But that can't progress unless and until the reactionary weight of the Vatican can somehow make visible a movement away from the well-known personal failing (into the political world and even below that into idol worship of money, power & flesh) of so much of the leadership, and re-focus an identity of first principles and well, holiness. Jesus Christ with an MBA! Suddenly, without warning, William and Mary's House of Orange is jolted by the Dutch queen's abdication in favor of her son. Generationally, she will be with the Bilderbergers, the semi-secret society blamed by much of the world for for much of the financial/psychological unraveling of the west. Bilderberger was founded in the ruins of the Nazi Party post WWII --by a card-carrying Nazi member of the Dutch royal family. Did the queen abdicate in order to take the ''damned spot'' out with her, and hand over to the next, less continental royalist restoration biased generation? Then a week or three later, the Pope's resignation. The first such in 600 years! Two very nearly unprecedented events. Italian people turn on their City-of-London/REuropean Union/ sent head of state, and try to bring back one of their blood. Meanwhile, the USA president gets his new cabinet in place --almost all Knights of Malta joining other warrior for the Pope societies already comprising almost all the security advise and command echelon, and all, even Napolitano and Panetta at Santa Clara, Jesuit-educated --the SMOM order being the private channel of not-necessarily nefarious communication among the Vatican, the St Petersburg faction of KGB (belonging to Putin and the Russian mafia), and DC via faculty dons at Georgetown and other colleges esp of law, and , with Obama and the Chicago Machine under control or vice versa, one must include the USA mafia, too, among the armies assembling across the channel to take back England, as well as that thing the idiot Hanoverian (Windsor) dynasty managed to lose, that is, the USA, and its neighborhood, the western hemisphere. Meanwhile, our ex-president, under whom this new force launched its operations whether he authorized --or even knew it --or not, has taken up painting. Tho his initials are GB, like Great Britain, he signs his work '43' (without the apostates, i mean the apostrophes). He is said to be depressed --perhaps its just a diagnosis taken from the four paintings you can find on the net --stolen in that phone hack a couple weeks ago. Two of the pictures or of himself, in the shower, and in the bath --what is that --feeling unclean, or enjoying painting in a small private space. A third is a portrait of his dog, who is looking back oddly accusingly. The fourth, the current, he was working on it when the hack happened, is a little stone Anglican church near Kennebunkport. thanks XRay --i wrote some more, a PS that got as long as the original --but it won't post --even with no hyperlinks --a new wrinkle in the decay of maggie's spam guard --oh well, who doesn't have several hours of prime daylight to waste on an uncaring spam guard s o n o f a b i t c h?
:-) "spam guard s o n o f a b i t c h?"
Agree completely. I wonder the treasures that have been lost... http://www.slate.com/blogs/browbeat/2013/02/08/george_w_bush_s_paintings_and_self_portrait_critics_weigh_in.html
