We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Look at the emerging ghost towns of China. Riddled with empty skyscrapers. Shiny and new. And empty.
Look at the ruins of the ghost towns in the former Soviet empire. Despair all around and pushing upwards into a sky that is cold and unwelcoming.
Maybe there's a reason the tower of Babel was never meant to be finished.
A few months ago, I saw a blurb floating around the internet that China was planning to build the world's tallest building in around 90 days. Right. As a prototype, probably...who would actually want to be anywhere near that, much less IN it?
