We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
It is the same with my part of the Jersey shore - almost every boat (except for the small outboards) has some sort of American flag (and a state flag) flying.
Truth be told though. Many of the boat owners fly the flag, not just to show their colors, but to let others know when they are "at the shore." If you see the flag, then you know they are around town if not on board. No flag? That means they didn't come down to the shore. But, it is great that they have chosen the American flag to do so.
If you get the chance, and if you have any interest in movie-stuff, stop by the Holiday Inn and have a look at the original African Queen - not the movie named that in which it "co-starred" with Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn, but the boat itself.
That's assuming, of course, that it's still the Holiday Inn, and that the small marina on an inlet/canal next door to it still hosts the old craft. Last time I was through there, all was as I report, but that was about eight years ago, and you never know...
