We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
We went after the eating fish (Spanish Mackeral), not the big game fish. More practical.
It's like a zoo. With the Humpback Whales all around peering at your boat, the Frigatebirds stealing your bait, and the Sea Lions stealing either your bait or your catch, it was a bit of an obstacle course. But how bad is that?
When you go, make sure to sup at our friend Roberto's shrimp joint, and at Mi Casa for traditional Mexican food and jollity. Good fun. To cook the fish you catch, bring them to Solomon's Landing and ask them to make some wonderful dishes with it for suppertime. They will amaze you.
Fish you can eat may be more practical, but there is nothing like latching onto a 700 lb Black Marlin and fighting it for an hour or two. With light tackle, not those damn portable double clutch four speed clutched winches Penn makes and calls "big game reels"
Thanks for the post. We'll be down there in a few weeks, and already planned to do the same thing. Also hoped to find a restaurant, family, etc. to cook the results for us. However, only find the big game outfitters. Can you make any suggestions for mackeral, etc. and a way to get them cooked? Thanks in advance. JV
My brother spends as much time as possible off the Pacific Coast with a line in the water. He usually comes back with enough fish for his family and friends for a week or so. One time he went out and came back with nothing. "Bad day fishing?" I asked, and he replied, "If your enjoyment of the day depends on if you get fish or not, you are doing it wrong". He enjoys the catching, but he enjoys the fishing the most.
