Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Planetary disasters: It could happen one night
Well that is a cheery way to start off the Thursday summary. Boeing Has Another Dreamliner Mishap It's not that unusual for a new aircraft to have teething problems. It is a little unusual for it to happen one right after the other, but the 767 and 777 also has issues at about the one million air miles mark. The 787 Dreamliner will be just fine. When Teachers aren't Smarter than a Fifth-grader I've given up on defending today's teachers - they just ain't what they used to be. Ignore Flat Global Temperature Trend Of course - the whole climate change industry is dependent on cherry picking data, misplaced instruments and reliance on flawed weather models to make their points. Obama May Use Executive Orders to Impose Gun Control If he does, there will be a back lash. He might provoke a Constitutional Crisis and get his skinny butt impeached. Agreed. Looking at only the US leaves out the coldest winter in 28 years in China as well as severely cold winter in Russia. For those who want a more expansive view, check the next link from BD. mudbug: Looking at only the US leaves out the coldest winter in 28 years in China as well as severely cold winter in Russia.
China's average surface temperature has increased 1.4°C since 1950. Temperatures in Russia have risen at twice the global rate. How did I know that Zachriel would be evangelizing his environmental religion in today's comments?
The Tennessee case of an averted mass shooting is not the only recent one absent from the MSM.
http://patriotaction.net/forum/topic/show?id=2600775:Topic:6041798&xgs=1&xg_source=msg_share_topic That'd be the slogan, the bumper sticker, the parade placard, if the MSM would splash it, which it won't:
"How Many Crimes Prevented?" Global warming has neither stalled nor not stalled.
You can't distinguish a cycle from a trend with data short compared to the cycle. So there's no data supporting it either way, and there can't be. It's a fake news event foisted on the mathematically illiterate. Good points RH, but that doesn't stop the alarmists from spreading the word.
They have to do something to shake more of that government "science" grant money loose.
QUOTE: Biden: Obama May Use Executive Orders to Impose Gun Control EOs aren't unconstitutional per se. so the question is how little barry might use them. an EO dealing with gun control might well be constitutional. biden didn't blather what the orders might be, so we'll have to see. AMENDMENT II
A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. The word "infringe" means to encroach upon, which is damned broad in meaning. Infringement is explicitly the intent and effect of any EO that's directed at the control of guns. By its wording, the Second Amendment is (as I wrote earlier) much broader in the protections it offers individual rights than the First Amendment. Any EO that seeks to control gun ownership will thus run afoul of the Constitution. The only way an EO would NOT butt heads with the 2nd Amendment is if it sought to control the manufacturing and commerce in guns. Such limits might be allowable under the authority granted Congress by the Commerce Clause in Article I Section 8. However, an EO is not legislation and the Executive branch cannot legally usurp the powers that are explicitly granted Congress by the Constitution. "Whatever happened with Al Gore's sexual assault cases?"
Who cares? What happened to the Ambassador Stevens autopsy? Among many other events down the memory hole (by EO?). Thanks for the article about marijuana causing psychosis. We are so inundated w/ pro-pot propogranda.
I have a niece whose husband has been smoking pot every day for 15 years, and he is pretty nuts. I've been assuming that the craziness preceeded the pot use, and he was using pot to calm himself, but maybe it's the other way round. I forwarded her the article. I called re-write on #4, and came up with:
"Quantify the Deterrence!" ...doesn't quiiiite have that ring ...must ...try ...harder "You DO realize, don't you, that the problem is that hard-to-spell & hard-to-say French word?"
