We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I remember hearing this as young girl and crying in sadness for the lady. It's still a sad song but I've gotten older and wiser and realize that she didn't know how lucky she was to find out the truth about her "sweetheart".
Anyway - Patti Page's voice is still so pure and heartrending.
Fred, if you liked that song, check out the group Groove Armada. They tinkered with some of the song's vocals, incorporating them into one of their songs and it's rather catchy. It was a random song in one of my Pandora stations and I liked it so much I added it to my mp3 collection.
