We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Gary Wickert: U.S. Needs a 12-Step Program for Spending ... the 13 million people (including 3 million Republicans) who voted in 2008 but closed their curtains and stayed home in 2012 ...
You should be skeptical of a reliance on Breitbart.
Votes in 2008: 131,032,799
Votes in 2012: 128,553,859
Change: -2,478,940
QUOTE:
Gary Wickert: On November 6, 2012, a plurality of uninformed voters stumbled into the voting booths and despite the worst economy since the Depression, pressed the bar 59.8 million times in order to get another dose.
More particularly, a majority of voters. In any case, not all people who voted for Obama are on the dole.
QUOTE:
Gary Wickert: This would not have been good for the economy, but the cliff was not all bad.
He seems to be advocating the fiscal cliff, higher taxes and cuts in spending.
"On Being Over 50 and Out of Work" -- here in Eagle Ford Shale territory, there's no such thing as being out of work unless you want to be. Construction crews are half female, because even crusty old Texas employers will overlook lifelong prejudices and hire anyone who can show up and stay vertical. They can't build housing fast enough to contain the workers, many of whom are driving in from surprising distances.
That's until the EPA shuts the whole thing down, of course.
