We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
If you know what is going on, the context, it is informative. Without the chart of the actual wages above it, (rather than percentage change, which is all positive by-the-way) it just looks scary, especially with the spurious trend-line on what is obviously a step function, and the horizontal and vertical scales that are illegible even at max zoom on the original.
Welcome to the new normal. Wages are growing at less than 1%, but then so are investments and (in theory) inflation. When house prices were on an escalator it was important that wages were also.
Yeah. He's struggling with trend lines too. In the chart above a simple linear isn't appropriate. The rate of growth was rising until about 1980, dropped dramatically, then has been roughly level since (with a somewhat lower current trough). Much of this is inflation, in any case.
"The Obama Administration proposed a return to a $3.5 million estate tax exemption ($7 million per married couple), but some pundits believe both Congress and the Administration could agree to extend the $5.12 million estate tax exemption beyond the end of 2012."
6 years in the Marines (most in the Infantry) and 4 in the National Guard and I never once met an enlisted woman who wanted to serve in the Infantry.
Female officers may want the career advantage it would give - but after Officer Basic, they know what they would be volunteering for. Very few women have the strength and endurance to make it through the School of Infantry.
