We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Foolish, naive conservatives

Marco, my pal, remember this one thing: When they ask you a question you must assume it's a trap. They don't care about what you think, they are just looking for a gotcha. If you respond as if it were a casual conversation with somebody truly interested in your thoughts, you will be burnt toast. This is not a chat in a pub with friends.


Bill Clinton was good at this. He often responded to trap questions with something like "Oh, that's gooood." Then he would immediately ignore the question and switch to the talking point he wanted to convey.


Watch out for all the traps, you ambitious conservatives. As lawyers warn you, the prosecutor is not your friend nor is the plaintiff's attorney. They may act friendly, but they are enemies.

Good to warn him, good that he should learn, because you are right. On the other hand, I read this and thought...so? What was the big wrongness in what he said? Yes, I realize the dolts on the Left (an oxymoron) will have orgasmic thrills that they are already starting to "trap" Mr. Rubio, while their own Liar-in-Chief, the boldest and biggest Prevaricating Prez in the history of the Union, makes a gaffe-a-day (yes, it's not just "Plugs" Biden; Obama got the name and pronunciation of the Burmese woman who won the Nobel wrong, addressed the ruler of Burma incorrectly, and called the country Mynamar, thereby, as usual, supporting a repressive freedom-hating regime...par for the course for POTUS).

However, yes, Rubio has to make sure to not go the way of Todd Akin or even Romney and the "47%" comments. On the other hand, I think Rubio will ultimately be a lot smarter and more polished, if he works at it, and I mean this in a good way, than Mitt. I heard Rubio's speech from Iowa the other night, and...he can speak. He's not boring, unlike the Snore-Inducer and Habitual Prevaricator in the White House.

Rubio has real promise. He's young, and yes, it's very early, but I was impressed listening to him. He can articulate small govt. and even some social con ideas without sounding like a rube (I'm trying to see this from a centrist viewpoint; the Left will think he's Right of Satan, of course). I think he's trying to figure out how to talk to that center....some will complain he refuses to wear the Tea Party label, but I don't really care about a label, or think, good, if it's harmful at this point, then ditch it. BUT, keep the principles. Left managed to demonize the Tea Party label, as they did Romney. So, Rubio is working to deal with these things....and that IS why it's good if it's pointed out about the "gotcha" questions, but I can't see that this particular answer is exactly a Todd Akin (I live in MO; I can't tell you how disgusted I am with Akin, how much I loathe McCaskill the Crook, who was ripe for a fall) moment.

If Rubio is the next choice of the rinos I am done with the republican party. Rubio is just a second choice for florida bush. I need no more of the bush family much less surrogates. And rubio is no more a natural born citizen than obama.

I don't know quite what Rubio meant. But if he meant that he is a young-Earther, then I have to admit that it diminishes him somewhat in my view, and also casts doubt on his ability to reach a broad base of voters.

Texan; that is the point!! The question is intended to diminish voters opinion of him. Arguably Obama and other Democrats who claim to be religious are also young-earthers. Why aren't they asked the same question. You need to understand you are being manipulated and if you cannot at least stand up to the manipulation don't assist it.
