We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Nothing seems real anymore, not preelection federal data on jobs or food stamps or the release of such “facts”; not foreign-policy information like an Iranian attack on a drone; not the supposedly competent federal relief in response to Hurricane Sandy. Even Saddam Hussein’s plebiscites could not achieve margins like the 19,605 to 0 we saw in 59 Philadelphia precincts. Does anyone care?
I want you to tax the crap out of the blue states in which I live because I put country ahead of personal fortune. Not because I want to hear my tax-loving liberal neighbors squeal like stuck pigs. I’m better than that.
Go ahead, try to tax the wealthy in the blue states. Here in MA, such notable, wealthy people as john kerry and teddy kennedy have their money/wealth squirreled away outside this country and use every trick in the book (some illegal, think of yacht owned by MA dem docked in rhode island to avoid taxes)to avoid taxes. The number of poor will expand greatly, the middle class will be throttled with taxes and our wealthy political class will party hearty.
I do not always agree with Mr. Krauthammer, but I like the man. He makes clear what was my first intuition about the Petraeous affair. However, I will take it one step further: from the beginning when Broadwell first met/was introduced to Petraeous it was a planned event. She was placed in his life by the MZ Hillary--make no doubt about that.
He stopped coming to work sometime around September of 2011 so he could campaign full-time. Which is the real reason he knew nothing about Benghazi, because he only infrequently bothered to attend the daily security briefings. On those rare days he did come to work his normal schedule was to show up at around 10:30, have a meeting until lunch, go to lunch, and either not come back or have another short meeting until about 2 p.m., when he was gone to do campaigning.
But his normal schedule was to go to Andrews, take Air Force 1 all over the country, and then come back in the evening. Don't believe me, go and look at the President's Schedule page on the White House website. You can go back as far as you'd like.Just picked at random, here's a pretty typical "work" week for the President:
This one was too good to leave languishing on a quiet site:
A man wants to buy a new car because his old one is starting to act up. He calls the offices of now-nationalized General Motors.
"Hello?" A representative says
"Hi. I'd like to come over and look at new cars."
"OK. We have a slot open one year from next Tuesday."
"Would you mind if I came in the afternoon rather than the morning?" the man asks
"In a year what difference will it make?" the rep says
"Well, I have my doctor's appointment in the morning...."
