Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Are all New Yorkers this stupid? It must be something in the water. Their electrical worker's union turned away nonunion workers (but finally relented - of course, people will be without power for days longer than they otherwise would be).

Romney appeared in Jacksonville, FL last week. While none of the local media provided attendance figures, he had to move the rally from an indoor arena that holds about 12,000 to an outdoor park that can hold more.

A day later, Michelle appeared with Stevie at an indoor area that was estimated to hole 4700.

The Nanny Bloomberg and National Guard story, if true, does not surprise me. As is typical of nanny-staters it is do as I say, not as I do - YOU cannot have a gun, but my bodyguards can. YOU need to cut back on electrical use; but, my limo can be air-conditioned while waiting for me so I don't have to get into a hot car. YOU can suck it up for a few days without power, but, MY marathon must go on. etc. etc. etc.

And, actually, given the incident outside the Empire State Building a few months ago in which several by-standers were shot by police who were trying to take down a murderer I think that I would much rather take my chances with a National Guardsman patrolling my neighborhood than the NYPD at this point. The NYPD cannot seem to shoot straight or I might be taken down for drinking a TOO LARGE soft drink.

I am baking up batches of cookies to send to friends in your area. Can any of you tell me how well UPS is doing in getting packages delivered to the World Trade Center? How about Cambridge MA?
Cookies is cookies and they will last awhile, but would like them to get there in time to be fresh and truly a pleasureable relief. All suggestions welcome!

Re: 60 years of MAD Magazine

As a kid, I inhaled MAD Magazine - Spy vs Spy, The Lighter/Darker Side of ..., movie adaptations, all of it. I also still remember some of piercing jokes about society. More recently, some lefty organization was offended by something MAD had printed (Some people are looking for things to offend them, they are called lefties. Everyone knows MAD was an equal opportunity offender.). They started to organize a boycott of their advertisers. Not only are lefties easily offended, but they're stupid - MAD never had advertising!
