Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Gettin' in the mood


I posted this last Saturday but thought I'd bump it back up to the top, just cuz.


Yep, Election Day is almost here, so it's probably time to start thinking about our next president.  I sure like that Palin gal.

A minor quibble; there have only been 43 Presidents of the United States. If he wins, Mitt Romney will be #44.

so why do we all say that Obama is #44, that Bush was #43, and Bush Pere was #41? Because we've been off by one since the 1890's. Grover Cleveland was elected President in 1884, and became the 22nd President, but was defeated in 1888, and was succeeded by Benjamin Harrison, #23.. But Cleveland beat Harrison in 1892, and became the only President to have two non-consecutive terms. So all the histories list Cleveland as #22 AND #24, even though it was the same guy.

So, Obama is only the 43rd person to be President.
