We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Probably the best reason to vote for R&R, but there lots of others. I've warmed up to Romney quite a bit. Part of that is, no doubt, because of who he is not (Obummer) but I do see some very powerful good points to him as a man and a president.
If R&R (or is it R^2) can get the RNC\GOP dinosaurs in line, and make them see the time for niceties\complacency is over, and its time to right the sinking ship, it will be as epic as ending WW2, the cold war, and defeating the Kaiser (not the ship guy...).
I'm crossing my fingers, since there is a whole lot of rot the progressives\socialists have hoisted upon us. I hope Romney and Ryan are up to it - Obama obviously isn't.
Declared itself arbiter of constitutionality; declared Dred Scott to be property; declared growing grain for household consumption to be “interstate commerce”; declared income tax to be unconstitutional – then reversed itself; ruled “separate but equal” to be the law of the land – then reversed itself; declared abortion to be a fundamental right of privacy embodied in the CONstitution – yet denies any true right to privacy; unwilling to strike down “PATRIOT ACT”; can’t seem to grasp the meaning of “shall not be infringed”; ruled obamacare CONstitutional -
Is that the “supreme” court of concern?
Do you REALLY believe the court will rule against another body of government, in any substantive manner? The CONgress, POTUS, & SCOTUS have destoyed any vestige of presumed legitimacy, and demonstrated beyond ANY shadow of doubt who they truly work for – and friend, it ain’t you.
Wrt Dred Scott - it was an affront to liberty and human rights, but the fact was that the issue of slavery was punted to get the country off the ground and was not corrected till the Emancipation Proclamation. I don't know the details of the decision, but in the broad sense, Dred Scott was legally property. I do not quarrel with your disgust of that reality. Nor do I disagree with your disgust with the other decisions that have gotten us where we are today.
It all depends on who is on the court. The fact that some would "rule against another body of government, in any substantive manner" means that others might too if given the opportunity. If Obummer is re-elected, what are the chances that such a court would be seated? If Romney is elected, is it a greater possibility that it will? Regardless of what happened in the distant or near past, those seem to be the appropriate questions we should ask ourselves.
I hope that one of the first things he does is fire a bunch of czars, bottom feeders all. And then he should explain clearly a program of across the board cuts and austerity measures. If he explains it as well as I think he will, he can sell it to the American people.
Roll back EPA regs and open the Keystone Pipeline. Immediately.
The only point of reflection I can offer is that are these two candidates really the best that the 400 million people of the USA can produce? A Muslim and a Mormon. Oh dear, oh dear. Something is rotten in the House of Liberty.
