We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Nice brownstone for sale

We recently posted a report of the closing of the last brownstone quarry in the US. Manhattan and Brooklyn have tons of old brownstone buildings, commonly entire blocks of them. Some people like the look and some do not, but it is not a very durable building stone.


I stumbled on this brownstone for sale on the Upper West Side (87th St, just off the Park). If I were a rich guy, I'd enjoy owning a place like this with the top floor used as living quarters for the help. Like most buildings from the era (1850-1910), each brownstone has a garden out back. Looks great from theoutside, but if you look at the video you'll hate what they did inside when converting it to apartments.

Who in their right mind would pay $60 k/year to live in their own building? For $60k/year I could fly first class round trip multiple times to enjoy the "cultural" amenities of NYC. I suppose if you are working there scamming your clients for a living, and making a killing you wouldn't notice. I think it's time to break the stranglehold that NYC has on the rest of the country.

Brownstone is a sedimentary rock, and it is layered. Its durability depends critically upon whether the layers are set vertically or horizontally. Sorry, I don't know which way is best.

I work with sandstone, vertical external use,horizontal on occasion for decorative internal use.
