Such attitudes move me to endorse John Derbyshire's title We Are Doomed. The inability to even perceive this as a problem is so widespread at this point, I wonder if the nation will ever consider things differently. Conservatives seem to have a touching faith that at some point the general population will reach a point at which it sees through the fog, and will rise up and demand better. I see no evidence for this. There is no break point on the horizon which I think will shatter the myth. Those of us who see will go on mentioning the loss of freedom, ever more wistfully.
