We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
After the debate it is painfully obvious that Obama has no big (or medium-sized) ideas for a second term. The Bain and tax-return gambits have gone nowhere. Big Bird is now a punch line. So why not throw it all up in the air and see what will fly? That is what Obama and his spinners are doing. The antics are far from coherent, and the message is become more and more fractured. This is what a campaign in decline looks like.
Seems like it, given how embarassingly - insanely - they are behaving. Pure negativity. However, four or five weeks ago Romney was felt to be hopeless. Momentum is going the wrong way for the Dems, and it looks like Bill and Hillary got the memo. (May I ask what Bill Clinton is doing immersed in politics? Isn't it considered infra dig for ex-presidents? Or is he above all rules of decorum, boldly expanding the limits of appropriateness? Hey, Bill - it's a good season for golf and skirt-chasing right now.)
Had to look up "infra dig". Something about "beneath one's dignity". Bill Clinton? Okay, NOW I can LOL with Charles. Foresaw this as one big reason why I wanted him convicted by the Senate in the first place. Alas.
Ralph Thayer, New London
Ralph, I didn't need conviction. I wanted only for him to stand in the well of the Senate and have to answer questions, as long as they wanted him there.
Like the Dukakis moment in one of the 1988 debates when Dukakis was asked how he would respond if his wife were raped, and gave a similar response.
Imagine where the world would be if ∅bama had been President on 9/11/2001. "Not optimal to have the WTC destroyed and 3,000 killed." I would be surprised if that was close to his initial, unscripted response.
Which is why ∅bama is so dependent on the teleprompter. If he speaks without a script, his actual opinions come rushing out instead of the carefully crafted messages that will keep his poll numbers up.
Jesus H. Christ people, Barry can still win. A few percentage points means nothing to D cheating.
IT'S NOT OVER!
And Romney drives me crazy, I hope he got good and pissed off this week, I hope he starts to fight like there will be, in fact, no tomorrow.
Do you know I tried to volunteer in MA, no local organization. I tried to acquire yard signs to put up in front of my home, I'm getting them but I had to BUY them from Romney's web store. And they are taking their own sweet time shipping them to me, it's been a week! The second biggest jogging trail in town goes right by my house and I have nothing out there.
"It is breaking really bad for the Dems right now"
The DNC will start worrying about the rest of the ticket (governors, congressmen, etc.). Democratic politicians in tough races will start to distance themselves from Obama. (They don't want to get buried in a Romney landslide.) The whole thing will make a comeback difficult for Obama.
This isn't a time for flippancy, JtR. The future of the nation is at stake in this election. I owe it to my ancestors in the Revolutionary War, to my ancestors in the Civil War, to my father who was at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, to my fellow soldiers during the Vietnam War, and to my children and grandchildren, to do everything legally possible to preserve the American Dream. Hopefully, you feel the same way.
Maybe America is done with the reckless experiment with ObamaLand.
We'll see. If Romney abolishes waste (the Department of Education), fraud (the Department of Energy), and abuse (Homeland Security), then I'll believe America is finished with FDR/LBJ/Obama's mix of communism and fascism. Otherwise Romney is a bump in the road to the paradise of social justice.
