Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Shelby Steele: It's the culture, stupid.

It's about voting. Not everybody votes their pocketbook and, in fact, maybe most people do not.  Steele is one smart guy.

I disagree with Steele's assertion that the majority of blacks vote for Obama because they favor a progressive culture. Perhaps some favor him for that reason, but a significant number just want a handout (welfare/entitlement).

Why didn't Mr. Steele mention Race as the motivator for blacks to vote for Obama. I live in Chicago and can tell you that race is the main motivator for Obama support. The interviewer and Bill Kristol are at pains to avoid saying Race is the issue. Steele is a smart guy? You're joking, right? He is a typical intellectual avoiding reality. Many blacks hate whites, and this is their chance to get even. Have you seen the death threats on twitter against Romney? Kristol and the Jews, the liberal jews want the destruction of white christian civilization, it's pretty obvious if you wish to see it.

Ahhhh! The too-comfortable American Jewish community! Not unlike the Jewish communities in Eastern Europe during the late '30's/early '40's:

"These nice Germans (read 'Liberals') just want us to shower to prevent the lice from bothering us!"

Wasn't that Tom Frank's complaint about Kansas? And he never got a clue about why they didn't do as he expected them to.

Repub are unevolved white guys. Right. The Won is progressive, Repubs are unevolved. I question the premise.

Shelby Steele is not/does not seem as smart as I have been told he is. Haven't found his writing any better than this interview, either.

Many non-black minority groups are voting Obama because he is not white. Perhaps not as self serving a reason as blacks have but racist never the less.
